Description:

New Jaguar Combo (2 in 1) Composite and Enhanced S-Video Cable.

Features:

1. Custom made Jaguar cable.

2. Gold Plated Audio L + R and Video RCA connectors

3. Enhanced S-Video (about 10% sharper Image and less Red bleed compared to the Atari made stock Jaguar S-Video cable) thru a custom made built in video enhancement circuit)

4. 6 foot length

5. One Combo Jag Video cable, will allow you to connect up to TV / LCD / Flat Screen Monitor's Composite Video and Sound inputs or one S-Video in connection (but not both at the same time)

6. Patent Pending on Jaguar Combo Cable and Enhanced Video circuit design

7. Compared to the Stock made Atari Composite Monitor cable $22 and Atari S-Video Cable (sold out) $24 separate cables from Best Electronics. New Enhanced Combo Jag cable $44.95

Best Information Tip: The street price on the rare and very hard to find Atari made Jaguar S-Video cable only, has now risen to a new high of $50 plus shipping in a recently closed Atari E-Bay auction.

I know most people LOL at gold plated connectors and how they make no difference but what about this one? Best Electronics seems to have a very good reputation. Would this be worth $44.95?

I don't know anything about that cable, but I did pick one of these up: http://morethangames.a8maestro.com/prodgame/advert-g4.htm , and it works great, but took a VERY long time to get it (several months), and communication from the seller was poor.

I eventually found out that he had none built, and after reading the rest of his site, he's apparently very busy, and orders are low priority, especially if the parts aren't built. But it looks like he's revamped his site, showing stock now... and there's 8 of the 6' ones in stock: http://morethangames.a8maestro.com/ . I would think that means it'll ship out relatively quickly, though if you're pressed for time, you may want to to to another source (Best Electronics, look for an official Atari one on ebay, or build your own).

Basically, I'm just saying that AFAIK your options are the MTG one for $25, Best for $45, or ebay for $??. I'd guess they all look about the same... WAY better than the RF that it came with. ;)

I'd spotted that enhanced s-video cable for sale from Best Electronics before and wasn't sure what to make of it. Without any sort of picture comparison to illustrate the difference between this cable and the official s-video cable, it's hard to justify the $45 when, as DogP pointed out, there are alternatives that are nearly half price. How much better could the picture quality get with this "enhanced video circuit design", unless it really is something extraordinary?

Well... 10% LOL ... it says so right on the page so it's gotta be true. And my car stereo sounds 38.52% better than the stock stereo, and Wendy's food tastes 9% better than McDonalds.

There was word about these things getting remade awhile ago in China and as you all know, the cost on these is about 1.50, just giving you all a heads up.

So you see the mystery behind it. It smells a little like snake oil; but on the other BE has a good reputation.
