more proof that the playstation is sort of a "nes of the 90's", lol. i'm not talking about those ps games that use passwords, either! i've come across two imports that basically commit you to completing them in one sitting as soon as you pass the "press start" screen:

 netz toyota racing (atlus, 1999)- a promotional game given away by a japanese dealership, this game is a gran turismo-style racer (it uses atlus' advan racing engine) that's basically a walking ad for that year's model toyotas! the whole game is a series of races (on real but renamed tracks in japan) that takes maybe 2 or 3 hours to complete at the most, but even though you can break records all over the place, unless you have a witness or record your races to tape, it's just an oddball collectable for those racing fans who have to have everything!

 zeiram zone (crowd/banpresto, 1996)- weird, weird 3D beat-em-up featuring characters from the anime/live action cult fave, iria. the game is REALLY short (about 2 hours or so), and has hints of brilliance, but then you face some goofy-looking enemies and wonder just why the hell you're playing this. the really strange thing is, when you finally knock the crap out of the last boss (and get a kooky ending), the game generates a code that i have NO idea what the effect is! i think it's different for each difficulty level, but i went through the game twice in a day, and my hands were gnarled into stubby hooks, lol...

if you come across any others, post 'em here...=^P

I haven't gotten around to actually playing it yet, but I bought a copy of "D" and was warned at the time that there's no mid-game save and that it's basically a 2-hour FMV-fest.

i was thinking of more obscure stuff, but hell, i'll count those anyway (didn't doom/final doom have passwords though? i KNOW that's not a game one can finish in a single sitting, lol).

also, D is structured so that you NEED to finish it in one sitting- it's like watching a movie; you can't pause to take a bathroom break, but you can leav laura doing nothing, and unless it takes 3 hours to do what you're doing, you can get back and finish the game. if you run out of time, you just get that particular ending...
