Hey DP forum goers, do you love the Retro Duo but hate the scratchy, terrible audio the NES side produces? You're in luck - this can be easily be correct by installing a simple audio dampener. It just needs two common parts!

I wrote this tutorial to help my fellow gamers who want to get the most out of their Retro Duos. When I first got my Retro Duo, I searched for the info on how to fix the audio and found the few tutorials out there confusing and poorly written, leaving a lot of guesswork to the hobbyist. My aim here is to provide step-by-step instructions that are simple and easy to follow.

Hope this helps some of you guys and gals out there with getting your 8-bit gaming on!

Awesome!

Still one of the best NES clones out there IMO.

I'll add this to my official Retro Duo thread!

I hope this helps out many people. The Retro Duo is really great and the NES is near perfect once you preform this mod. Expect a video soon where I basically show off NES audio from many different games on it.

Question, to solder the resistor you solder one side on the top and the other side on the bottom left? Its hard to tell in the pic and there is 2 places on the bottom you could solder. I managed to scrounge the resistor from work and the cap from a old 3rd party saturn controller. Can't wait to hear the improvement!

You solder both ends to a small point directly above and below that black boxy thing (I'm not quite sure what it is). If you solder to the wrong place the audio dampener simply won't work; you're dealing with voltage levels too low to actually have an impact even if you put them in the wrong spots.

Here's a video showing off how good the Retro Duo can sound once the audio mod is preformed. Hope you enjoy.
