View Full Version : How would you price games differently if you took food as currency?

I have a few items to sell ASAP and while the cash thing isn't working I'm wondering about asking for food as currency.

How would you price it using food? If I ask $55 for an very rare item, what would be a fair trade as far as cans of food / bags of rice? Shipping is going to be a killer..

Has anyone tried anything like this before?

The most expensive games will be worth McRibs and Crystal Pepsi.

I think you're better off just getting money for your games and then buying whatever food you need.
Good luck man.

It's like pulling a cart without a horse. This is why money was invented, to solve this problem.

Barter is great and all, but food barter is impractical for internet sales. There is always bitcoin. That's internet cash.

I trust bitcoin less than I trust PayPal with my money.

Only way I can see people trading food for games, after money becomes worthless.

I get food assistance from the gumment, so I have no need for trading games for food. I suppose it would be work the same as trading one thing for another thing would, based just on what the items in question are "worth," and maybe desirability to some extent. Salmon costs more than chicken the same way Super Mario RPG is worth more than Super Mario/Duck Hunt.

This thread I don't even...

I am sure it would be a lot easier to find somebody interested in giving you money than them giving you food, considering they would probably have to buy the food specially when they could just give money to you instead and you could buy the food yourself...

I like this idea. I'm making my own food price guide for games. So far I've got:

• Pitfall: 7.12 (7 tator tots and 12 Skittles)
• Snow Bros: Half a brisket
• Kriss Kross Make My Video: a used gummi worm suspended in 42 ml of apple cider vinegar
• T&C Surf Designs: bowl of Cream of Wheat (add raisins if CIB)

It's a work in progress and prices fluctuate wildly from day to day. It's a volatile market.

You also did not say if you would take expired food, so you may want to stick with cans for a longer shelf life.

I have 3 old boxes of Hamburger Helper in the pantry that no one seems to like the flavors of, whadya give me? Also a box of "Pastato" that was here when we bought the house, but it's so old and weird looking I can't bear to throw it away.

Also if you want the food factory sealed or unopened, of course it would drive the price up. So you would have to send sealed games to compensate. And will you be looking for food complete or is can and manual a route you may go?

This thread really could be epic IMHO.

What could you get for a few boxes of Pocky?A weekend of debauchery with a chubby weeaboo (followed by a lifetime of cyber-stalking). Assuming they're strawberry, of course.

It's only worthwhile if the food is graded (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107389). Gotta protect your investment!

I'm down for trading food for games.

But... does the food have to be in mint condition, in the original package? I still have a factory sealed bottle of Helman's mayonnaise I found in the wild three years ago. I'm looking for a CIB copy of Bloody Wolf or Ninja Spirit for the Turbografx 16, if anyone wants to get a deal rolling.

I'm not too picky about the condition, as long is it's not damaged and the game is playable.

I would be interested in this trade. I am looking for the "Free Recipe Book" label variant. It's all I need to complete my collection.

Note: This is the "Free Recipe Book" on Helman's regular mayo, NOT light.

The only way i would trade games for food is if it was local and my friend wanted the game. $28? "Ok dude you want this game? Take me to McDonalds for Mushroom Swiss Angus burger meals the next 4 times I come hang out"
