since i didnt see one already, figured i'd make one of my own, i just got mine in (free with a preorder of deus ex) and have to admit, this thing is alotttt better than what i expected, games stream for the most part flawlessly, i seriously can hardly detect any lag at all(here and there yea, but for the most part, none) and graphically, its pretty on par with consoles if not just a bit washed out at times

the onlive controller is what surprised me the most, i honestly love this more than both the dualshock 3 & the 360 controller, fitting since it seems to steal the best bits of both to make something new

if any other members are on the service and looking to coop fear 3 or play the other online modes , throw me a friend request "elprivon2"

There are a few Onlive threads

But its cool you made an official one.

Id like to know what people think of this, as an australian I can't see ever being able to experience this but it sounds like a novel idea.

yea i know, i did run a search first, but the purpose of those threads were really to gauge peoples interest on the then upcoming onlive console and service, i created this thread specifically for those that already have one, to get there thoughts on it and share gamertags

but if you're asking how i feel how onlive plays, i'd have to say that i can honestly not tell a difference between this and locally run games on ps3 or xbox, even tho the graphics are streamed and obviously compressed, the games are being run from their pc counterparts and not the console versions of the games which tend to look and run better than console games, lol so basically you're starting out with a superior image than one found on consoles and then compressed and streamed to an image just slightly below consoles, but definitely tolerable and definitely playable

this thing is going to pay for itself in the long run as i plan mainly on just renting games i normally would have bought at price drop, 5.99 for 3 days is outstanding, and i also think all dlc is included (dont quote me on this)

as far as multiplayer games, i dont even see why anyone would pay for these things as all games have a free 30 minute trial, not 30 minute lifetime trial, just 30 minutes at a time! this really wouldnt help you during a solo campaign or anything unless that campaign can be beatin in 30 minutes or less, but for online multiplayer, all you have to do is jump in the game, play matches until the timer expires, get out and jump right back in for another 30 minutes ad infinitum lol

im going to abuse this system until onlive finally catches on to wtf im doing

I was invited to the beta.

My internet connection was not fast enough. They told me that after I had installed everything and tried to run the first game.

Consoles for the win.

OnLive?
*runs to Wikipedia*
0_0 Really...so, like, may laptop that can't run Half-Life 2 could still possibly play Half-Life 2 by running it off another thing? Or am I misunderstanding how this works?

yea, if you preorder deus ex, you get a free microconsole bundle (you just pay shipping) along with deus ex, a bunch of crap im never going to use like 44 minute making of video and digital comic bla bla, some preorder bonus dlc and the best reason by far, the original deus ex game of the year edition

exactly that, provided that onlive of course had half life 2, you can play whatever games it is they happen to have, but their library grows like every week or something,

i play arkam asylum off a 3 year old netbook flawlessly

You get a free system when you preorder Saint's Row 3? Maybe if there were more games that interested me, I would get it.

Ponyone
08-03-2011, 09:54 PM
Yes you do (I think you can get a free one for pre ordering warhammer or deus ex as well).

I got my system, but im experiencing lag. I'm on a 20mb dl on road runner (I get about 8-12 speed test) so I'm scurrd. Told my cable company to boost me up to 40ish just for this thing.

LaughingMAN.S9
08-03-2011, 10:00 PM
wth? im in kissimmee, i also have a 20mb connection with brighthouse, lol 40 mb is overkill, it did lag the first day, i felt like i got screwed, then i turned it on a few hours later and it ran perfectly ever since, i dont even know why

edit: i just did a speedtest, clocked in at 9 - 1.8

reedit: lol i just realized im downloading a 6 gig chunk of files while simultaneously streaming mad men on netflix, lol i'll post again later with a revised speed

and games are coming, i got mine with deus ex, but i think the new tomb raider is coming on it along with dead island and arkham city just to name a few

I've been really excited to try this thing. but the hiccups are bad. I'll test again tomorrow but ill be sad if I can't get this to work. Because it does seem cool with a nice little community and I like the 5 dollar fridays and what not.

How big is your tv? Mine is 56 inches. They say that can cause lag but I have the same amount of lag when I try to play onlive on my laptop (though that's a wireless connection)

I don't have any other computers running or anything else running when I try the MC. Nothing. Lag. Sad. Lagsad

Ponyone

IGN is running this on their frontpage ( link to actual story http://pc.ign.com/articles/118/1185726p1.html ). Talks about Onlive and Cloud gaming killing the disc-based game

LaughingMAN.S9

lol the tv i play on is also 56 inches, its and older hdtv model, only supports 480p and 1080i, i'd like to play it on my newer 32 but it would have to be thru wifi and i dont want to introduce any unnecessary lag

honestly when i play its 98 percent smooth, once in a blue moon it'll lag when im playing split second or dirt 2, but those are the only games where you would expect to be able to detect lag due to the speed of everything, but usually it plays pixel perfect

this might also be a factor, 9 out of 10 times im playing at night, that might also be a factor in why i dont experience lag, i mean basically we're playing on the same size television and we have the same connection speed (brighthouse is basically road runner rebranded for southern territories) so i dont know why its lagging for you, have you tried plugging the micro console directly into the wall?

how bad do you lag? and is it a constant thing? the first time i played it was basically unplayable for the first few hours, i was getting ready to swallow my pride and eat my loss, thinking about how much i should sell it for on ebay when i gave it a final shot a few hours later and it ran perfectly ever since

my advice is to unplug your modem and router for around 20 seconds then replug them back in and connect like that, i did that the first time as well and i cant say whether that was the sole reason it worked or not, but something happened and i've been happy ever since

They've been doing this promo with just about every AAA game for some months now, surely something you'll want will be part of the promotion if they continue it. I'd bite on Deus Ex if my ISP didn't just drop the hammer on its customers and cap data throughput at 50gb per month. :-( No streaming much of anything for me for the time being.

I have been using a wired connection for the MC. Also, just announced... If you get the playpack bundle you get 30% off all purchases I think? I didn't read it enough but it was something like that. I DON'T KNOW

Ponyone
08-05-2011, 07:29 AM
Okay, if you do subscribe to playpack, it's 30% off EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. New releases, pre orders, sale items, consoles and peripherals in the store etc.

That's pretty cool.

Oh and it's $5 dollar friday and today the game is Darksiders. I'd buy it if I can get this thang working.

Ponyone

So... uh... I switched to the 40mbps and now there's more lag than before. I don't get it. It could be my ping which I can't seem to make go down (pinging to D.C. gives me around 88.. which is where one of the onlive servers is). I've tried port forwarding and DMZing and trying everything to lower ping. Nothing. Nothing doing.

LaughingMAN.S9

you should call onlive directly, cuz this is the weirdest thing i've ever heard, also i think theres a new server farm in georgia so it cant be a distance thing, especially considering im only 1 county over from you at half the speed and i can play flawlessly, what times do you play?

usually i play at night, but i do play in the early afternoons on weekends and still see little to no lag

you get it now, along with any bonus games that come with the preorder that are already on the service, then when saints row or wateva comes out, thats when you can play it

you pay shipping tho, its about 10 dollars i think
