Ever make it past the second level in Alpha Mission for NES?

This game is friggin' hard! The first boss is honestly pretty easy, especially after I figured out you press select to get shields and stuff. :) Still, even this doesn't seem to save me from the second boss. I know I've beaten and died in the third level at some point, but I don't remember. How far did any of you get in this game? What abilities did you use?

I've gotten pretty far in the game but it's been a looong time.

Flame is usually the best for bosses. Use nuclear (or however it's spelled) on item pyramids during the levels to find hidden items and 1ups. It's very useful.

I really like that game. Its interesting and challenging. Try Alpha Mission 2 for the Neo Geo if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed.

Ya know I thought it was pretty good too even though it gets a lot of hate. The armor ability system is pretty cool and adds some strategy to it. I've started using thunder to get past the hard bosses, it kills 'em in one hit so far lol

It's a great SNK shooter. Watching reviews on YouTube, the game seems to get a lot of hate but mainly from people who don't know the basics of the game, such as selecting a shield. It's been awhile since I played it, but I think I've been to the fifth or sixth level. Be sure to have max "power" or whatever they call it, of 24 before fighting a boss. If not, run your ship over the "R" to repeat the level. You probably also have figured out that picking up the backwards letters is harmful. I often use "fire" against the bosses.
