I've never played any of the GOW series, but I have a pal @ work who said I'm missing out. I got some $ burning a hole in my pocket, so I think I'm going to order the GOW collection (I + II). I'd also like to pick up the strategy guides for both of these games, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm buying. I see lots of GOWIII guides, and lots of GOW guides for PS2 and PSP, but for some reason I feel like the ones I'm seeing aren't what I'm looking for.
Are there guides out there for PS3 GOWI and GOWII?

There are seperate GOW 1 and 2 guides for the PS2 and a single guide for the PS3 GOW collection. And yes you are missing out as this is one of Sony's best first party series, right behind Syphon Filter which apparently nobody but me seems to care about.

so the PS2 guides for GOW I and GOW II are also for PS3?

It's the same games so yes you can use them for the PS3 versions. The only real difference is that the PS2 guides won't cover the PS3 trophies.

Yeah. I use the PS2 guides, plus sites like this (http://www.ps3trophies.com/games/) to look up the trophies.

Glad you're gonna get in on the action.

God of War is one of the most boring, overrated, piece of shit series out there.
If you don't own Dante's Inferno, Lords of Shadow, Devil May Cry 4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Bayonetta, or even X-Men Origins Wolverine. Pick up these games first. All of these games are far better than the entire God of Boring Ass Shit series.
A bunch of great games, or decent in Bayonetta's case, get overlooked because of a piece of crap, unfun series is praised to no end because it was released at the right time and hyped all to hell by the media. The graphics are amazing and apparently that's what makes it a good game, because the gameplay sure is boring as hell.

That's crazy talk. Devil May Cry, fits that description though.

Devil May Cry 4 and Bayonetta a crap. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a must play, but be prepared to start levels over, as the game will lock up on the PS3 version.

I thought God of War was the best game I ever played on my PS2.

Bayonetta wasn't really that bad. The soundtrack though......

Bayonetta was phenomenal. Fast pace, relatively complex combat mechanics, varied challenges, and a grading system that encourages repeat play.
God of War was also phenomenal. The combat's blend of flowing strikes and button-tapping is unlike other action games, and more importantly, it has great presentational values. If I'm spending any reasonable amount of time with a game, then theme, graphics, and music really do matter (and always have mattered, ever since the days of 2600).

Agreed but you do have to admit that the main soundtrack sounding like a fashion show was a little out of place. I did like some of the enemy intro pieces though.

There are many games that have terrible graphics and happen to be good games. Graphics and music don't necessarily break a game, it just makes a good game better. If the game first and foremost doesn't have good gameplay, then it's not worth playing.
Only when certain games aren't a possibility have graphics ever truly mattered. That's why people still play games on the 2600.

I am playing the GOW PS3 Collection right now, and I am enjoying it a lot. I played the first GOW on the PS2 and I am now replaying it on the PS3 before moving on to the second.
I agree with some that graphics don't really ruin a game, but for me the music is very important. I don't play games with other music in the background, and there are some games that just have very annoying music.
So far the GOW games for me are absolutely worth a play.

Presentational values matter on the 2600, too. Haunted House is cooler than Swordquest: Fireworld partly because it conveys its theme far more effectively -- and it always was cooler. Ask around and you'll find that ardent 2600 fans actually like the way their favorite games look.
So yes, a game needs to be mechanically sound (like God of War) but with thousands of titles out there to choose from, I'm not going to spend my time looking at and listening to something unappealing. I'd rather play a game with great graphics and music -- something like Shinobi III on Genesis or Ninja Gaiden II on Xbox 360 -- above something like Modern Warfare 2, which has poor music and modest graphics.

Same here. I have the original PS2 releases and enjoyed them both when each one came out. GOW2 was a little slow at points, but overall it's an excellent series. I bought the HD re-release when it came out last year and blew through GOW1 in a few days. Haven't tried the HD GOW2 yet.

This is true for me too except for racing games. The Burnout games are my favorite racing series but I have to play them with my custom soundtracks because the majority of the licensed music sucks balls.

You'll enjoy it I think. I forgot to mention if you're still on an action game type kick after you finish the GOW collection I'd also recommend Heavenly Sword. Should be pretty cheap nowadays and I really like that one.

GOW2 is so much better than GOW1. For starters, there are no swimming stages. Secondly, the 3 sisters boss battle is one of the most memorable and creative boss battles that I have ever played
I hated the first GOW game, but despite a few moments of pure rage fits, I saw the game to the end. I ended up getting GOW II when it dropped to $20 and thought it was a hell of a lot better than the first one, being as it seemed to have less cheap moments and didn't feel like I was button mashing into oblivion. Although I did briefly own it, I've yet to play GOW III, but did enjoy the demo.

You'll love the GOW games. The only complaint I have about them is that the gameplay can get a little repetitive, but most games are like that to some point. The boss fights are fucking crazy though...enjoy!
