I bought a Wii at launch, and after playing Wii sports for a few weeks it got boring. I sold the Wii, and have not played one again until this last week when I broke down and bought one at the new price. I picked up the MarioKart version, a couple games, and an extra controller.
MarioKart is always fun, and the wife likes to play Wii Sports Resort. Although, I am really looking forward to playing the Mario Galaxies, New Super Mario, and the Zelda games.
I know the system is old, but unlike when I bought it there is actually a catalog of games, and I have not played any of them. What should the first one be? I am thinking the first Galaxy.

I've never owned one, but once they drop to $99, I'll pick one up for Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and probably the new Zelda.

Either Mario Galaxy game would be a great start, though Galaxy 2 is a fair bit tougher than the first... if you're into side scrolling action, there are PLENTY of those on the system, both from Nintendo and third parties. If you like racing games, you should also look into either Excitetruck or Excitebots.
And in all honestly, there are plenty of third party gems to find in the lineup if you dig around a bit.

I just picked up a Wii for the first time myself and am really enjoying it.
I picked up the wii sports and sports resort bundle along with a classic controller and Sonic Colors to start off with. Colors is the first post-adventure Sonic game I've played and its pretty wicked so far, totally lives up to the hype IMO. :)
The console itself is ok but I am really impressed by the homebrew community behind it. The organization and ease of using the homebrew browser is astonishing and the homebrew games that I've played so far are actually good. Now I'm just waiting for my component cables to come in the mail. (AV is just not ok lol)

I recommend Donkey Kong Country Returns, Murmassa, and Little King's Story.

Colors is the first post-adventure Sonic game I've played
We should all be so lucky!
I played the first few levels of the Wii version as well, and while I felt like the game was playing itself for much of the 3D sections, it's a far better game than any other console Sonic that's come out in the past decade.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but is there really speculation that it will drop to 99$ sometime soon? If so, then I think I will jump in. Sadly I don't own a Wii :(

Track down a copy of WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Best use of the Wii-mote, especially pre-Wii-motion Plus. Great game, somewhat surprised it saw a US release. Definitely more fun with more people, but not too bad single player because the mini games are so short.

IMO I really don't see it moving from the $149 price for awhile. Also, I doubt $99 would be the next move anyway. Probably next year I see it going to maybe $129 or something....Maybe.

Gotta be honest, my Wii sits there virtually unused from day-to-day. Last game I played on it was probably the Cave Story remake they released on the Wii shopping channel. I have a bunch of games that look like they'd be sort of fun, but I'm enjoying PC indie games too much these days to really feel motivated to turn it on. I did enjoy Mario Kart Wii a lot, though - but only with a classic controller. That wheel-action was bogus; you couldn't control jack with that thing.

I bought the classic controller as well, but have not tried it yet. I am doing very well with the wheel. I found when using the wheel it is easy to over-steer though.

Thank you for the link:)
I'd recommend "Wario Land: The Shake Dimension" (a.k.a. Wario Land: Shake It!) and "Rhythm Heaven." RH for Wii has not been released yet though it will be this year; however you should be able to find Wario Land Wii with ease and it is a great platformer.

My Wii was pretty much collecting dust in a corner until I learned about Wii modding. Now it's one of the more active systems I own.

The price that it's at now is still too expensive. The Wii should be $99.

I would highly recommend Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. It was my first Wii game other than Wii Sports. It is phenomenal. The motion controls work very well with it.
Also, Metroid Prime 3. This game, in my opinion, probably has the best use of the motion on the system.
If you can find it, Zack and Wiki is a lot of fun. It is basically a point and click puzzle game, similar to Monkey Island.

Lots to play that is for sure. When ever I find a deal on any of these I will pick them up. If anyone has some of these or at least the first galaxy for sale let me know.
I second Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. Good times.

Is Sega AllStar Racing any better on the Wii versus the PS3/XBOX versions?

I thought it was already pretty easy to get a new Wii for $99. Maybe that was just a local special.
I've never owned one, but once they drop to $99, I'll pick one up for Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and probably the new Zelda.Too bad Galaxy 1 & 2 will still be $50 for a while yet, eh?

Unless you're heavily left-handed...in which case it's flat out unplayable.

I'm left handed, though :p
But, to be fair, I am slightly ambidextrous.

I'm fine with borrowing or renting if they don't drop to $30.
