View Full Version : Controller issues with Fear Effect on a PS3

So, I consistently have this problem with Fear Effect every time I pop it in the PS3. The controller is just dead regardless of what I set it to and the game just hangs on the title screen. This usually prompts me to search the internet to see if anybody else has had the same problem (my searches always come up empty). I'll leave the game on while I do this and, for whatever reason, when I return to the game to try and futz with it some more, the controller is miraculously working like a charm.
I monkey with the controller settings quite a bit, but I haven't noticed anything that fixes the problem. It just seems to go away after about 10 minutes of sitting idle.
Anybody else have this problem, or know what's causing it?
Thanks!

Can you put the DS3 in digital mode like you could with the original DualShock?
Fear Effect is pretty old. Maybe it was meant to be played with the original PSX pad.

Fear Effect is not very old. It came out in 2000.

Actually, the ps3 automatically sets it to digital mode when you boot up the game. But toggling it between digital and analogue mode has no effect.

So after trudging through Sony's "redesign" of a site, I finally found the Compatibility Engine. It says by default that Fear Effect should not work. May be just a weird update that caused the game to load, but not fix the controller issue.

Well, that's a bummer. I guess I'll just have to load it and wait the obligatory 10 minutes before the controller miraculously works.
Not sure why you're having this issue, but I've played Fear Effect on my PS3 just fine and just popped it in again after seeing this thread, still experiencing no problems. I have the Slim, so maybe there's problems according to what model of the PS3 you have and assuming that you have one of the older models, that's really the only thing that would make sense.
