Genesis, Sega CD or SNES -- what are your thoughts on HOOK the video game?

I just reviewed the SNES version and although it's too easy and Pan moves a bit too slow for my tastes, I quite enjoyed it. It's simple, basic, magical, whimsical, fun.... just how a 16-bit game oughta be :)

Plus the SNES version has one of the coolest, most atmospheric intros I've ever seen

Hook has very good visuals for a game released late 1992, and the music (SNES version anyhow) is really awesome!

Anyone else have thoughts, memories or rants they wanna share on HOOK?

BANGARANG, PETER!

That's all I have to say.

I might actually give it a go now.

I have some fun memories associated with the SNES version, as it was one of the first 3 games that I bought along with my SNES nearly 20 years ago (dammit, so old!). For its time, it was a really fun platformer. I really liked the colorful graphics and yes, the soundtrack was pretty amazing.

I owned the Sega CD version more recently, which is exactly the same game, but with muddier visuals and laughably windowed FMV. Also, the music sucks. I think the soundtrack is based on the movie's soundtrack, but it doesn't really fit the game that well.

Never played any of the other ports, but if you want to get HOOKed on another version of the game, try the arcade beat-em-up!

Great movie. Never played any of the games. I might try it out sometime.

Now I feel like such a paramecium-brain, munchin on my own mucus, for never giving any of the Hook games a chance..

"Pan moves too slow"

If you hold the attack button, he runs. You actually have to do this to jump some pits.

I have the Sega CD version and its one of my favorite games of all time. I mean, I kinda-like the movie too, but this game is just perfect. It is THE Peter Pan game. I just wish there was more of it, maybe a 3D remake....

I own the movie's soundtrack (yes, really) and I don't think they used its music. I beat the SNES version years ago and got the Sega CD version on one of those two packs. It's okay, but the colors suck and loading times are horrible.

Also, fun trivia: The developers of this game also made another very awesome game: Skyblazer.

*makes a note to pick up the SNES version of Hook to see if its really that much better*

*makes a note before remembering he already has Skyblazer and it is indeed awesome*

indeed. Ukiyotei made Hook and then they made SB. You can tell playing both games that the same people were involved.

SB is good... I dunno if I'd call it "very awesome" myself though, but to each his own. GameFan loved it. In a 2000 issue SB was called "one of the best SNES games around"

Control issues aside, it's one hell of a game.

I played through the Sega CD version in 1993-94 and I thought it was pretty generic at the time. Maybe I should give it another shot.
