You know, the word hero gets thrown around a lot, and in the process it's lost some of its meaning. Some of its power. But we're not sure the term has ever been more accurately applied than it is to Raymond Cox, whose record-breaking Gamerscore (http://www.1milliongamerscore.com/) has just reached the milestone of 600,000. Cox crossed the last big hurdle -- 500,000 -- over nine months ago (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/17/the-guy-with-the-half-million-gamerscore/).
When does a meaningless number become instantly meaningful? The moment yours is higher than every other person on the planet. I understand achievement whores and trophy whores. Honestly, I do. I consider myself a small-time trophy whore. 30 plats pales in comparison though to the 100-200 that some people have (and more).
I don't follow Xbox leaderboard gossip, so I don't know what people say about Mr. Stallion. I do know that a large portion of the people who top the PS3 leaderboards are confirmed cheaters. Cheating meaning trophies gained by hacking, account sharing, game save abuse... basically anything where you aren't earning the trophies yourself.
And as a result, these people are not deified like they probably thought they would be. They're ostracized, and any trophies that they might get legitimately, nobody cares. The real trophy whores and achievement whores are honest, hard-working people.

My Gamerscore just recently hit 1000.

I thought it was neat just to surpass 10,000 earlier this year (Haven't played it in months now, for some reason) and I've been a Xbox 360 owner since just before the system's 1st anniversary.
I can't imagine even 100,000, let alone 600,000.

I've found a number of reviews touting "online leaderboards" as some kind of significant feature, but what's the point when they are inevitably going to be solidly dominated by cheaters?

You guys are talkin' alot of shit when someone's actually devoting their time to playing the crapton of games they own. Can all of you say that you're playing your games, let alone this fully?
I've played w/ Stallion in the past in boosting sessions when 360v was still a decent place to go (w/ s1lence, Capt Nintendo some others). He's a nice guy, who's got a life outside of gaming, but where we've got our collecting, he's got a massive routine of actually playing his games for gamerscore.

COOOOOOMBO BREAKER!
First slightly, positive, or anti-negative comment so far.
I too had the same thoughts. A community and forum dedicated to video games; playing and collecting them.
Also, we HATE THEM, and everybody who plays them. Wait? Somebody played a lot of them? And now has a couple news articles about them? KILL HIM! BURN THE WITCH! Video games are terrible! I hate my life!

Say, is "Stallion" a reference to that one episode of Family Matters?
I used to go by "Stallion" way back in the day when playing the various Carmen Sandiego games in the computer lab at school. That did not go over so well.

Completing a game is one thing, completing, or not completing, garbage games to just get a high gamerscore is different. Games like Avatar or Madden 06 that are easy 1000 points. It's just a number showing that you've wasted that much time playing games that aren't even worth it, along with other games that are.
We can't very well lay judgment that he has a rich family so no job or he has no time for other games than to just pad his gamerscore if he does have a job and wants to actually have a life, but more than likely one of those ring true.
Can all of you say that you're playing your games, let alone this fully?
Going through his website, 1milliongamerscore.com and reading through the recent page, he's went through three games and didn't complete everything on them. He's played through the games, got the easiest acquirable points and moved onto the next game.
He has a nice looking woman.

The girl looks okay. I think it's nice to see him pay a tribute to Rocky(being a fan of the series myself.) I'm only guessing that Stallion is his XBL name because he's a Rocky fan.

I guess most people here don't like the stereotype that people into games are shut-ins who do nothing but play games all day in their basement. When someone seems to do nothing but play games all day it just seems to reinforce that stereotype which is what gets people upset. Most people would assume he plays games all day because of how high his gamerscore is, you can't get it that high unless you play a lot of games.

I got a Games for Windows Live account, downloaded their free game, but it ran like crap because of my video card. I only completed a few puzzles and got 20 Gamerscore. I do have GFWL games with achievements, and I'll work on 'em later now that I have a decent video card.
The way I look at this guy is he's trying to get a world record. Well, it's his call, and I won't be criticizing him for doing it. He's spent a lot of time trying to get it, anyway.

I'm guessing most of this was directed at me but it was only a joke.
Great for him having a significant other but anyone who has that high a gamer score must play a shit load of games so he must expect some ribbing.

It's sad because it means he had to play some really BAD games!
And then when he didn't get all the achievements the first time, he had to play a really BAD game again. I barely have time for the good games!

For the first 1-2 years the 360 was out I loved getting achievements. I wouldn't say they ever made me play a game I didn't want to though. Most of the mediocre/bad games I played were early titles when there wasn't much to choose from, happens with every console. I have to add achievements did bring more enjoyment out of those titles, it was definitely satisfying to play a game in ways you normally wouldn't and get the full 1000.
I hope he gets to that million mark. Congrats to him for making it this far.

Achievements(and their derivatives) fall under a solid meh category.
I understand that some people love collecting them and they can be used in creative ways to push the player to try some tactic or route that they might not otherwise take but personally I don't see the appeal. I don't like the way they can ruin certain plot points for anyone with half a brain or give away how far you actually are in a game by the super obvious "Congratulation on Participating" medals.
That being said congrats for this guy and this is the kinda thing companies tend to emphasis so hopefully he gets a nod from Microsoft or something for this.

Wait it all makes sense now. Stallion is the fastest running elf in Suikoden I & II. Faster than any character in the game series. I see, no one can match his speed at buying and playing through games because he is Stallion the speedy elf. *sarcasm*

It always comes down to this. Always. Let's just start judging every man for how much pussy he's getting. That's all that really matters right? Any other achievement or accomplishment is meaningless.
I mean, if some dude spent 25 years of his life in the basement of his parents house, and found the cure for cancer, he's a god damn loser cause he never uses his willy.

In a sense, yes he would be.
The lengths these people go through to "earn" points by renting complete garbage games literally makes them insane.

Actually, that person who finds the cure for cancer could get all the pussy he wants because he'd probably be one of the richest people alive. He wouldn't even need a prostitute. He could be like one of those old guys with an 18 year old wife who's obviously waiting for him to die so she can inherit his fortune. Not so much of a loser when he's banging her five times a day is he?

Oh naive kupomogli. The guy who discovers cancer will either work for a corporation or for a university. Either situation will result in little compensation for the team behind it (as it's unlikely it'll be just one person) and massive amounts of dollars for the institution he is employed to.

Why, it's really no different than this one. Someone achieves something that goes public, forum trolls come out and make fun of it, the few decent forum members left come out and defend it with logical reasons as to why it's not anything to get up in arms about, forum trolls ignore logical arguments and get butt-hurt, hilarity ensues!
The only difference is which of the many trolls here are dragged into the post.

Yup. It came out when he rolled 500k and everyone picked up on it (including news aggregates like Yahoo!).

People just want to find negativity in everything. It's no different than the god damn WoW community. I had gotten 20k last year and I thought that was an achievement, but my achievement pales in comparison. Then again, it's not surprising that there are those out there that excel at their hobbies, much more than I ever will. That's definitely something to be proud of.

Actually, I do get pussy. I just don't let it define me as an individual. Cause I can tell you the guy next door to me gets pussy too. It's not like it's that hard to get.
My game collection isn't as large as some others, but it's a pretty big accomplishment, and I do have way more than an average casual gamer.
This doesn't impress me any more than the person who holds the Guinness record for "most clothespins attached to face".
