View Full Version : Killer Instinct (SNES) - Sealed? Did I dodge a bullet?

So I dropped by the local used game shop that I stop by every month or so and they had a Killer Instinct for SNES that appeared to be factory sealed for $29.99. I'm not really interested in collecting sealed games but wouldn't pass one up if the price was right.

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to factory seals, but I've heard enough to know to be wary of this sort of thing. I didn't ask them to take it out of the case to look at it, but I saw that it had a hang tab (easily faked I know) and a seam across the top of the box as well as a vertical seam that wrapped around the back. I looked at all the current listings for "factory sealed" copies of the game on eBay and they all look similar to the one I saw in the store.

Ultimately, I decided to pass because I've never actually played the game, so it has no sentimental value to me. I picked up a Super Game Boy and a copy of Star Fox to replace my copy that broke on me 12 years ago. Did I make the right choice?

I don't know much about authenticating seals, but I can tell you that several years ago eBay was flooded with legitimately sealed copies of Killer Instinct. I have no idea where they were found, but some supply must've surfaced. I picked up one myself for $5 (and opened it). So I wouldn't be surprised if the store did have a genuine factory sealed copy.

I thought I might have heard that somewhere before, maybe even on here. If there were a game to purchase new and open to have that "brand new game" experience again, but not feel too bad about it, I suppose that would be the one. For $20 I would have taken the risk, $30... not so much.

Not worth it.

30 seems a little steep to me, especially when it holds no signifigance to you and you don't already collected sealed games. Good choice to pass in my opinion.
