I'm just wondering what you guys think the average value is for an original Bally/Midway Ms. Pac-Man cocktail table? The machine is in good working order and is also in great cosmetic shape. The seller on craigslist posted that he's at $850 firm for the game which sounds slightly high to me. I know cocktail table cabs are worth more than stand ups but I don't know if I'd want to deal with someone who is unwilling to negotiate a price. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe $850 isn't a bad deal factoring in I wouldn't have to pay shipping. I can't find a good comparison on ebay though. All the recent finished auctions are for the newer Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga combo units.

The original Ms. Pac Man's always come with a high price tag. They are still very popular and in high demand. The price is fair if it is in excellent cosmetic and working condition.

Of course, I would still try to get it lower. $750 would be a good offer. In this economy, it's harder to sell these expensive toys so he would be a fool to pass up $750.

Agreed with stargate

................

I have an original..(It’s one of my Dream Machines..... fulfilled..

I’d say,if it’s something you always wanted and can pick it up go for it...Go see it give it some good play and look for any problems..(turn it off, wait 12-15 minutes then turn it back on

I love it when someone has the machine running, you get it home and it doesn't turn on right..

..I’d probably still haggle to $750.00-$800.00 at most ..Times are hard, people are not buying today..

Good Luck ,I hope you get it..

It’s one of those things I’ve always wanted yet I don’t think I’d ever have/had the money to pay for or obtain locally..

I don’t like to get Arcade/Pinball machines shipped to me so the pick up see it in person option is a big plus..
When I bought my Pinball machines it was local..Even my Dads were local pick up(Betsons)
.................................................. .................................
I prefer original Ms. Pac Man(with Bar,Arcade signs of use..
Mine has bar type wear as I know it’s history was in a bar.
..Shoot everything I own of the sort has bar or Arcade type wear....I like things super clean and neat but playable.

I never had the thought of buying one of the newly made machines unless I hit the lottery..For me the new machines don’t have the same appeal as the originals..The only plus is the newer machines are more simple, less problematic, easier to source get parts..The insides on the new machines are way made simpler put together then the old machines.
The old machines can be temperamental..Due to that things inside have to be changed,When you install new parts then that part of the originality is gone..
Someone says to me,I have an old “all original”Ms. Pac Man machine yet the machines power supply has been revamped to a Jamma type power supply,That’s not all original then...

........................
My machine does not get much use..I play it once a week and or leave it on for family get togethers/played..I prefer it not to be played or on all the time-beat on..If it was to stay on a lot and to be played a lot I would prefer then to have a newer type machine..

The parts are EXPENSIVE..I don’t want this machine to break on me.

Thinking about it..If I was to get a new Ms Pac Man Machine ..I’d have the cabinet look like Ms .Pac Man but I’d have a multiboard in it.. (I like Galaga)

I got lucky and found my machine at a Flea Market(My Eyes Popped out when I saw it)..It was within a closed down bars items, the machines was not fully working so it must of sat in the bars basement or corner(from all the cobwebs)or all of the items from the bar may have sat in storage for years.
I have never come across a Ms Pac Man Machine at a flea market so I wasn’t passing it up..
Original price was $350.00,..I got it for $250.00 after testing the machine there(wheeling it all the way to the main Flea Market Office power socket with the vendor)
The monitor needed adjustment,Everything on screen was huge.. and the board was bad(layouts not matched to where Ms Pac man was on screen)..I bought an original board off a recommended seller on ebay..
I replaced the Glass and Overlay(still have original parts packed)..Some bulbs needed replacing...twobits

I’d say I spent around $550.00 after all that..
.................

My brother in law has a Mint Full Sized Stand Up version but I prefer the Cocktail and Mini stand up version instead..

This is the one I want..

[Mini-Myte model]
[No. 602]

The Mini-Myte model came in a smaller woodgrain cabinet, without any side-art. All of its graphics were scaled down versions of the ones used on the upright, except for a graphic of Ms. Pac-Man chasing three ghosts that appeared on the lower part of the control panel.http://www.pac-man.com/mspacman/mini/

NOT this version

When you go look for the machine check for this..or ask about it..This may have been repaired.

One of those mini models was at a local indie fried chicken place here, but it's horizontal hold was screwed up and they took it out. At least they left the Gaplus machine there.

Sorry, but this isn't the case anymore. The only reason the price on pacs was ever high was home buyers that wanted one game to put in their gameroom. Once the multi-boards came out and people realized they could have multiple games in a single cab, the bottom dropped out of pacs (among other classics).

I wouldn't go more than $400 or $450 and even then, it would need to be minty. My upright was $300 in great shape and working 100%. Even at that, I felt like I paid a bit too much.

If you felt that $300 was too much for an original Ms. Pac Man in great shape, you are certainly one tough customer.

You may be partially correct in your analysis, however I rarely if ever see these games go for that cheap on ebay or Craigslist. If I ever see them on CL in my area, they are usually around $800. On ebay, they are all over the place in value, but usually over $600. It also seems that they are becoming increasingly harder to come buy. Lots of newer versions with Galaga, but not a whole lot of originals. Cocktails even rarer.

I'm not an expert, just an observation. Plus like the OP said, it is local and no shipping charges. You have to wonder when another will come his way. I think if he REALLY wants it and can get it for $750, then go for it.

In all fairness, I am very lucky to live someplace that has an arcade auction every 2 months and a huge network of collectors. Lately, the deals on classics have been insane, probably due to the economy and the proliferation of multi cabs. If you're willing to mame a cab, "there's gold in them thar hills"!

You might try getting into the forum at www.klov.com and see if anybody else local has one they would part with. I'd imagine there are plenty out there. If you were closer, I could set you up with the people I know.

Good point. Collectors tend to be much more reasonable in terms of pricing. You also tend to get machines in better condition. Most of the CL people in my area are just nuts with the pricing. Case in point, I just saw this one today:
