The 160GB system will now be $250 in the United States, 250 euros in the European territories, and 24,980 yen in Japan. The price drop is effective immediately in all territories except Japan, where the price drop will begin on August 18.

The PlayStation 3 model with more storage is also seeing its price cut, with the 320GB system now being sold for $300 in the US, 300 euros in European territories, and 29,980 yen. "In addition, a limited edition inFAMOUS 2 bundle is now available at participating retailers across North America. The bundle retails for $299 and includes a 320 GB PlayStation 3, a copy of inFAMOUS 2 and a 30-day membership to PlayStation Plus," SCEA's CEO Jack Tretton wrote on the official blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/08/16/live-from-gamescom-playstation-3-now-249/)

I quoted this from arstechnica article (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/08/sony-announces-ps3-price-cut-in-all-territories-on-both-ps3-models.ars)

Seems like they really want a piece of the pie :vamp:

Might finally pick one of these up now. Not today or anything, but I'll think about it.

You won't regret it. It's a fantastic system.

I bet Microsoft will soon reduce the price of the Xbox 360 as well, just to compete.

Yeah I have a 360 though and that's where I do my gaming. I'd only be grabbing it for exclusive and right now the only one that I'm interested in is the God of War series (never played one). Though I heard it's a dumbed down Ninja Gaiden in terms of difficulty so I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy it.

I fully planned on buying a PS3 in anticipation of the next Twisted Metal, but that got delayed until 2012. So no rush there either.

I'm still torn on this thing. I know at some point I'll get a Blu-ray player, so there's that. However I think I like the exclusives on the 360 better. I currently have neither, and this hasn't changed the stalemate for me. If the 360 goes down, that could give me the answer..

Have I mentioned I'm poor? LOL

I don't necessarily think a person needs both a 360 and a PS3, but you need one of the two.

If all you have a is a Wii or maybe no current-gen system at all, this might be a good time to jump on board.

I've been thinking to replace my old model. Don't use PS2 BC near enough anymore. Especially not with a region mod PS2, and even that isn't getting much use...

I was/am going to get a PS3 for my brother as a house warming gift. I'm glad I waited! Now I can get the 320GB Infamous bundle for the same amount I was going to buy a 160GB for! I guess timing is everything.

I might get one for Christmas. A part of me still wants to play MGS4.

It's worth getting for that game alone.

I'm still not really sold on the PS3. A buddy of mine has one and I hate to say it, but I've been less than impressed.

When it's $199, I think I'll bite. I'm more than happy with my Wii/360/PC combo I got going.

I may finally pick one of these up now, as there are enough exclusives that I'd want to play, plus don't the cross platform titles usually preform better on the PS3 now?

And I've been wanting to replace by BR player.

That Infamous 2 bundle looks pretty cool for a first time PS3 owner. I was kind of hoping for a $100 price drop, but I guess $50 is better than nothing. I wanna get a slim 160gb soon, cuz my 60GB that I got back in 2007 isn't going to last forever.

For those about to take the plunge I would recommend getting the 160 gb Black Ops bundle. For that $250 you get the system, Black Ops and a code for the first map pack. And if you are one of those people who don't like fps games(shame on you) then you can always sell your copy of Black Ops and the code for the map pack. You can sell the game new or used(obviously) but if you don't think you will be keeping Black Ops then I suggest you not use the map pack code and just sell it.

So while Black Ops still retails for $60 and the map pack sells for $15, a more realistic price you should sell both for would be $50 or so and that way your new PS3 ends up only costing you $200. Thats what I did for my 160 gb PS3 I bought off of craigs list with 3 games for $150. I sold the three games for $60 and ended up only paying roughly $90 for my first PS3.
