Mystery SNES Controller Dongle

Can anyone identify this dongle and what it came with or is used for? It looks like it may take a Genesis controller, since that is the port it uses, but it could very well be for something else.

i think its so you could play snes with a genesis controller

it comes with a universal controller, there were a couple of them that could swap between snes and genesis, some had 2 cords and some had adaptors like that.
