Hey there Flam, based on the titles you mentioned, I think you'd get a kick out of Felix the Cat for the NES. Its not the most common game, but its not that rare.
thanks, I'm looking for some easy games to play with the kiddo's

Ducktales 1 and 2, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, basically any Capcom Disney-license are great for the kids!

Let's see... in my personal collection, I could recommend Rainbow Islands, Rockin' Kats, Mappy Land, Kickle Cubicle, and Snake Rattle n' Roll (though that's a bit more challenging). They all share some similar colorful, addictive qualities.
I also second Felix the cat as well as most of the Capcom Disney games: from what I remember, Darkwing Duck and Mickey Mousecapade can be a little tough.
[edit] Rainbow Islands is not in my personal collection, but if you like Bubble Bobble, you'll have a blast with that as well. :)

Based on those titles, I would say Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden are similar in platforming/power ups - but ultimately, probably too challenging. Bubble Bobble is less like them, but kind of close, and definitely fun. The Mega Man series is also a likely pick as well.

Great kiddie games... This I know a bit about :) Like the aforementioned Disney games, you'll also find your munchkins like games like Solomon's Key, Trojan (a huge kiddo fave, try it out), Mario Bros (not Super, the old one), Punch Out, Spy Hunter, RC Pro Am, The Three Stooges (if they've seen the show, they love the game) and almost any shmup (Life Force is the cheapo I give the little ones, Contra or Super C for the big kids). For the light gun, Trick Shooting and To The Earth. I dunno about yours, but these games top the kiddos list around here.
thanks for all the suggestions! I have Castlevania III and Mega Man II & III. I've heard good things about Chip N' Dale RR, but I never played that one growing up.
FYI- my son LOVES Asteroids. I forgot how addicting that game can be.
