First I want to say hello to all. My first post here...
So I finally got Whip Rush Jpn version with box, booklet and cartridge. But I have problems with the game. The game will instantly lock up if I make some fast manoveurs in the game. That is if I for example press up and left at the same time. The music will go in in the background but the game itself will freeze. I have tried with different settings in my Action Replay(this is like game genie - I use it to play imports) and still same problem. I have also plugged in an original Sega controller from 1990 that still works and no luck. The game will however not lock up if I press fire button + other buttons simultanious or/and press the direction pad at max a direction at a time. So I can go up, down, left, right as long as I am not going side ways up, down etc...
What do you think the problem is? the game? incompatibility with the game? Unfortunately I can't try the game with my Jpn Megadrive as I have lend it out a friend who happens to live very far away from me.
Thanks for reading.

Anything I'd guess at here would be just that - a guess. I've never had that problem before, I use a Honey Bee converter to play MD games on my Genesis.

I'd be willing to bet that it's the Action Replay you're using, I've known them to be a bit "quirky" like that at times, especially causing problems like that which you are describing. Are you trying to use any codes at the same time?, while many games could be used with the Action replay and Game Genie a lot of them didn't particularily like being used with them and you'd get results like those you're describing happening frequently.
Basically, I'd be willing to wager that the AR is tapping into the cart and messing up certain memory areas which are influenced upon certain actions, if you got a proper convertor (e.g.later generation honey bee or games master) the problem probably wouldn't occur.

Hello thanks I will introduce myself in a second ;)
So it might be the AR then? I guess. Too bad I can't test the game without the converter. The old version of MD carts.... The AR is version 2 2.1 from 1993 or 1994. And i have tried certain codes with certain games like japanese version of world of hearoes and it crashed. but none of the games crashed while playing them and not using any codes. and I have to buy a honey bee? it will work with pal systems? what version of these converters should I get? btw the ac has a dip switch thing that seems to have no use at all, what does it do? I have the booklet and box somewhere but I cant find them right now. and I have had the converter for years but I recently started to use it because I was forced to use the multimega more often than I used to.

Is this honey bee good enough? it says that all japanese games and some us ones will work? some us ones? hmm weird. but I am not too concerned with us games for the moment. the ar seems to handle them just fine.

We really could do with more of a Megadrive / Genesis buff in this discussion to deal with this exact issue (C'mon, where's this boards Sega collectors?).
Hmm, I'm honestly not sure if that one will do the trick or not being that the seller hasn't specified any real details about the model. However, it is a dedicated game converter in which case it Should do the trick. Half the AR's problems span from the method it uses because of what it was mainly designed to do (Cheat), whereas a dedicated convertor is designed for that one specific role.

That Honey Bee adapter is the one I use, I've never had any problems with Mega Drive games on my Genesis (unless they're PAL/SECAM, that's another story). I can't say for sure that your Whip Rush will work though, I play the US version of that one.

Well I allrady bid on it. Either it's Whip Rush, Console or the converter. Hopefully it's the converter. And I just talked to my friend. He will send back my MD in early October. So either way I will test the game properly hopefully.
Thanks for all input. Really appreciate it.

I decided to open the 32X and insert the game in it as the 32X can be used as a converter right? Well I tried with some Jpn games and there were no problems with it. Later on I tried with Whip Rush. Unfortunately it didn't solve anything. The game will still lock up if I move the D-Pad fast between up/down/right/left. Strange that it will only lock up when I move it fast that way. Doing it slow won't cause any problem and the ship will still move side ways up/down. So for example doing a Zangief 360 or 180 degree D-Pad rotation would lock up the game sigh.

Old post to reply to, but I had the same issues on a Genny 2 w/ Game Genie and the Genny 3.
I ordered another MD cart, just to see if mine was wonky with no soloution.
Until, I used a Mega Fire controller and set the Fire button to Auto.....No probs then at any speed or any movements.
I was curious and checked out the BIOS and the MD version is 216 KB while the Genny version is 212 KB.
Not sure what any of that means but apparently not the cart, system, or pass thru
