OK, I realize many of you have a collection that you're satisfied with. But for the rest of us, what console tops that list? For this thread, 'never played' means the system proper; emulators don't count, peripherals that allow cross-system play doesn't count, nor does watching your dad play when you were 3. For me, it's the Astrocade. I've wanted one of those clunkers for years now, but always get out-sniped. I'm curious to see what tops other's lists.

The Astrocade is interesting. I like the built in game storage.

As for me it's the Neo Geo, any of the consoles really, and the 3DO. There's plenty of interesting games I'd like to someday try out, but haven't had the opportunity yet.

I've managed to own or at least play most of the systems I've ever wanted with a few exceptions. There's a few systems I still have yet to see in person such as the Amiga CD32 and Pippin but I've never really felt the urge to own them.

I can think of a couple of console versions that were variations to existing hardware that I wanted to play on. One immediate example that comes to mind is the PC-Engine LT. I've played games on a regular PC-Engine, TG16, Duo, and SuperGrafx; but the LT was the crown jewel to me for a time.

I'm not sure if it counts as a console, but I always wanted to try out and tinker with a Net Yaroze system. I regret not being more adamant in getting one and easily could have if I had taken better steps saving for it. I had a similar problem with the PS2 Linux kit. :|

I can't think of any portables that were made that I didn't at least try. The only thing I can really think of is the Wonder Swan Color. I own a B&W Swan but I always wanted to see how the color games looked.

Fairly common systems I have not played:
Neo-Geo, SNES, Bally Astrocade, Sega Master System, TurboGrafx-16, Sega CD, Wonderswan

Systems only played at a friend's house:
NES, PS3, Wii

Any Neo-Geo would be at the top of my list followed closely by the TurboGrafx16 and 3DO.

To this day, I have never played an Atari XE, Atari 5200, Atari Lynx, Colecovision or Amiga CD32. Probably never will, I'd guess.

Otherwise I have either owned or played every other system I ever had interest in.

I'd have to say it's the Turbografx-16 or Turbo-CD for me. I've wanted a TurboDuo in particular (way expensive now) for the longest time.

I didn't have any Turbo stuff growing up (I was an nes/snes kid) but in emulating it, I love the library.

I remember seeing the NeoGeo in Babbages way back in 1991. The system cost more than I made in a month, but it looked so damn cool. I couldn't care less now, but during '91 - '93 I definitely wanted to get one. Still have never played one.

As a former Turbo owner, it is definitely worth pursuing. Problem is, shopping for everything online.

I was fortunate to get ahold of my old system and game library locally for lower than market prices :)

I'd have to say the Neo Geo. I had saved quite a bit of money as a kid back then and almost ordered one out of a magazine ad but recanted as I decided that I could just spend that money on games for systems I already had and with what the games cost I'd never have a library like what I could get with my Genesis or SNES. I would like to try one out someday but with what they go for now; its pretty much the same situation.

Never have played these: Neo-Geo AES, Turbo-Dup, Atari 400/800/XE, MSX, N64 DD. Perhaps someday.

List of never played: Astrocade, Channel F, Amiga, Neo-Geo, SG-1000, Atari Lynx, Studio II, and some more I can't think of now. Channel F would be next on my list, followed by the Lynx.

I happen to own every system I've ever played (excluding newer systems like Wii, 3DS, and PSP). So this list consists of systems both that I would like to own as well as those which I've never played that I would like to play: Jaguar/Jaguar CD, Lynx, TG-16, TG-CD, Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CD, Neo Geo Pocket Color, 32x (can't imagine this is much different than playing a Genesis), Game Gear, Sega Master System.

Wow...that is quite a few.

For me the only one left really is Commodore Amiga.

I pretty much have the rest except for some of the systems that are really just curiosities and not well known. Ie. Gizmondo, Zodiac, Xavixport, CD32, CDTV, Laseractive.

I only plan on getting an N-Gage if I find the port of X-Men Legends before the system itself.

Hmmm, I suppose the 64DD is about it. Nothing else I'm missing has me that intrigued (not that I wouldn't want to pick them up anyway). PC-FX was a big one for awhile, but I've had the system for about a year now and have around half of the library.

Probably mainly the NeoGeo and surprisingly enough, the Virtual Boy. I'd like to try some of the older MSX stuff, and maybe a Vectrex someday as well.

Oh, and I wanted a Neptune, but we saw how that panned out...

Because of the Midwest Gaming Classic, I've played many systems I've wanted but haven't gotten the chance to own yet. I've played a Vectrex, a Neo-Geo, FM Towns Marty, Pippin, VideoBrain, PC-FX, Twin Famicom, Super A'Can and Coleco Adam, but own none of them. Most are pretty expensive. I've hit a wall, gotten all of the common systems.

As for systems I've never played, the 64DD seems cool, and I've been curious about the Amiga CD32, though I could probably find a similar experience on the Amiga I've recently gotten.

Having had an Amiga 500 back in the day (loved it), I always wanted to try/own an AmigaCD32. Not so much these days, but still a little bit curious...

Never owned, played, or even breathed on a Vectrex. That's one I'd like to get but probably never will. I'm certainly not desperate for one but its a system that would be nice to own and play.

The only experience I've ever had with a Sega Genesis was at the little video games section they used to have in Sears. I've always wanted one just to see what it was like, but never got around to it.

I finally have one coming now, but it comes with Awesome Possum. :|

Well, only one comes to mind, and I'm counting it even though I tried it on a store kiosk: if you had asked this a week ago, I'd've answered with only one system: Nintendo's Virtual Boy.

But I just scored one last weekend so I can finally, finally cross that one off my list! And I played it for a bit and it's not as bad as I remember it being when I was a kid. I haven't tried all of my games out yet (I've had a few games for years, but no system to play them on), but so far, it's pretty cool.

Definitely the Virtual Boy. I've tried some of the games out on an emulator, but for some reason, the emulator's not compatible with a USB controller and it's kind of hard to control with the keyboard so...yeah, I need one of these.

Amiga, definitely. I'd also like to get an old terminal (http://www.wickensonline.co.uk/rc2010ww/vt320.png) to play IF and Roguelikes on. Not sure if that counts.

Wow, I guess I'm one of the old ones :-/
Neo-Geo, Virtual Boy and Vectrex seem to top the list, with Amiga making an honorable mention. I owned a Vectrex a couple years ago, but I sold it. Pretty fun and unique. Played a Virtual Boy for a few mintues for the first time a few days ago. Alright, I wasn't that impressed, but I didn't play it for long. Never touched a Neo-Geo. Would sure like to have one. And Amiga... Not with today's budget.

RCA Studio II
Amiga (any)
Magnavox Odyssey

I think that's about it. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the MGC peeps (and the retro computer people there last year) I have been able to play games on just about every system. The few I haven't played with were there but under glass.

Never been near a vectrex but would like one. Not really actively pursuing though. Would also like to own a Saturn, Famicom, and a Neo Geo. Played Saturn at Toys R Us back in the day. Played a few Famicom games via a 60 to 72 pin converter. Believe it or not a long time ago a local video store used to rent out a Neo Geo and several games. We rented it one week in the summer when I was a kid and loved it. One of my first thoughts was wow it comes with joysticks, nothing comes with joysticks anymore.

The Vectrex i find the system unique since it offer vector grahpics when on other, console couldn't at the time.I don't know if i'll ever get one due to it's cost.

The MSX2 i guess becuase it's library was different compared to other computers 'at the time and it was never released here. The problem getting one is being able to import it and finding one that is complete disk drive and all.

RDI Halcyon because I'm a FMV game nut. Plus they're insanely rare too which adds to my want-nes. I've seen the LD unit available for sale once or twice on Ebay in 12 years but never a complete setup.

Neo Geo Pocket
Turbografx 16
Virtual Boy
Sega Saturn

I never knew anyone with a Saturn, and it's not very high on my wants list although it is there. The others, well I should get a NGPC but there's always something else coming up. And the others are just too expensive for me right now :/.

Definitely the NeoGeo AES - I remember almost picking it up at Software Etc back when it was out, but the price tag on the carts was the deal breaker. ($200 per cart, for those who don't remember)

Any Neo-Geo would be at the top of my list followed closely by the TurboGrafx16 and 3DO.

Basically, these. I'd also have liked to played on the Satellaview and Sega Channel back when they were active. Also a 64DD.

Other consoles I'd probably like to check out but woudln't necessarily push for; the Jaguar, the Wonderswan Color, Phillips CD-i, A Pioneer Laseractive with the Mega-LD (or ANY actual laserdisc-based-videogame-thing.), the Advanced Pico Beena, and the Capcom CPS Changer

I've been lucky enough to pick up a lot of oddball systems locally in thrifts and flea markets over the years, but there are a few that elude me. A Neo•Geo would be nice, a Neo•Geo CD would be better (I've got a King of Fighters game for it already). I have played an Amiga CD32 briefly at a couple conventions, and have always wanted one since I was an Amiga user. I used to want an Emerson Arcadia 2001 console, but then due to the graciousness of our own Phosphor Dot Fossils, I now own his boxed one.

I'd love to get an Amstrad GX-4000, but they aren't exactly easy to find here in the US. I'd also love to even see an Adventurevision, but I'm beginning to think it's just a myth repeated so many times that everybody has begun to believe it really exists. I have run across the TurboExpress a couple of times in the '90s, when I didn't have enough on me to get it, and that still burns me.

Probably Turbografx-16. Also, I see a lot of people saying the vectrex, and I think they are awesome. I don't own one, but have played one that is why I did not choose it.

A Pioneer Laseractive with the Mega-LD (or ANY actual laserdisc-based-videogame-thing.)

Out of curiosity and not for the quality of the games, I hope. ;) I own a Laseractive and love it to pieces, but it's definitely not a console with a great library.

I would still love (in this order):
3DO
Vectrex
Neo-Geo/NGCDZ

I had an NGPC from 1999-2002... Probably had 6 or 7 complete games incl. Ogre Battle and (english) Faselei! but sold the lot so I could buy my first car. Good times! I still miss playing SNK vs. Capcom on the machine with its wondrous "click-stick".

currently, the only consoles I am interested in getting right now that I have NEVER played:

Odyssey (original 1972 model)
Adventure Vision (I want, but doubt I'll get as the price is VERY restrictive!)
Amiga CD32

This list was bigger a couple years ago, but in that time I've got: Vectrex, Fairchild Channel F, Arcadia 2001… (my other console purchases in this time are ones I've played before I got)

Never played a Microvision, but that would be cool.

The Sega Saturn is probably my top choice here. When it was new I was a kid coming from the genesis and only had a playstation as the households console, that coupled with no one else that I knew having a Saturn made it a unknown for me. I've always had an interest in it for that reason however collecting for it seems kinda expensive and I'm not sure if it would have enough games to really hold my interest for long.

The TG16 and NEO GEO are also on that list largely for the same reasons.

I've always wanted to play the Jaguar, 3DO, and Neo-Geo.

I remember all of the magazine's having the articles on the Jaguar, and how expensive it was going to be. Always wanted to play it but knew I'd never get it when it was released.

Never knew about the Neo-Geo until I was older, and always thought the big carts were cool. Plus I've always loved fighting games, so it seems like it'd be a fun console to play.

I could say the Amiga CD32 even tho I owned one (an NTSC one at that) because I never got the games I wanted for it, and most of the games I had wouldn't display correctly on my TV (since most of the games for it are PAL).

Or I could say the FM Towns Marty, a system I do plan on owning somewhere down the road. Likewise I could say the Playdia, a system I WILL own, and not just somewhere in the distant future like the Marty. I came close to owning one this year, actually, but couldn't justify the bid.

But the thing is, I haven't wanted these systems for a long time, and it seems like that's what the OP is getting at in his post. I can't think of a single system I wanted as a kid that I don't own now (including the 3DO that I bought a game for back then and held onto for years until selling it... then getting the system a year later). I mean, I'd sure love to have a computer to run the old adventure games on, but I can't claim to have not played on one, or not to have owned one even (my dad owned one, but I didn't bother w/ playing stuff on it at the time because I had a Genesis LOL).

I've long desired a good "old" laptop PC with either DOS or an early version of Windows to run some old PC games on. My search continues to come up empty. Always something wrong with every old laptop I get a lead on.

Well, I am ashamed to admit it but....

I never owned a NES or Genesis.

I have only recently gotten back into playing some of the older games. I still have my SNES and games, etc. from when I was a kid. My parents thought one console was enough (they were wrong). :(

Now I am working on making up for lost time.

Something in me wants to play/own a wonderswan color for no apparent reason at all.

A Neo Geo AES would be sweet too but I need to make a bit more money before I even think about it...

I own a US saturn but never played much on it, and an import-capable saturn is almost a different console so that goes on the list.

I sorta kinda would like a Sega Master System. There aren't any games other than Wonder Boy and Shinobi that I would like to really play, but I figure it would be a cool counterbalance to my NES collecting. The system itself looks "futuristic" in a retro Blade Runner-esque way, while the controller puzzles me with its single square game pad. I had a neighbor who had a Master System when I was a kid and I remember being intrigued by the strange device the one time I played it before he moved shortly there after. I wanna say his name was Jeremy...

I'd like to play (and possibly own sometime) a Neo Geo, TurboGrafx-16, and a Sega Saturn (I've always wanted to play that Albert Odyssey game).
