View Full Version : Whats Games Are You Getting For Holiday 2011?
The 1 2 P

We are five days away from the unofficial start of the holiday buying season(I don't adhere to the after Black Friday notion). But before I say which ones I'm getting we should probably get this out of the way first:
September Releases
Dead Island(Multiplatform)
Driver: San Francisco(Multi)
Resistance 3(PS3)
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine(Multi)
Star Fox 64 3D(3DS)
God of War: Origins Collection(PS3)
Gears of War 3(360)
Resident Evil 4 HD(Multi)
Fifa 12(Multi)
ICO & Shadow of The Colossus Collection(PS3)
X-Men: Destiny(Multi)
Solatorobo(DS)
Disgaea 4(PS3)
October Releases
Dark Souls(Multi)
Rage(Multi)
Spider-Man: Edge of Time(Multi)
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon(Multi)
Forza 4(360)
Just Dance 3(Multi)
Batman: Arkham City(Multi)
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One(PS3)
Power Up Heroes(360)
Battlefield 3(Multi)
Dance Central 2(360)
Kinect Sports: Season Two(360)
Silent Hill: Downpour(Multi)
November Releases
The Lord of The Rings: War In The North(Multi)
Uncharted 3(PS3)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3(Multi)
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection(Multi)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim(Multi)
Assassins Creed: Revelations(Multi)
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary(360)
Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympic Games(Wii)
Need For Speed: The Run(Multi)
Sainst Row: The Third(Multi)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword(Wii)
WWE 12(Multi)
Goldeneye 007: Reloaded(Multi)
Possible Holiday 2011
Star Wars: The Old Republic(PC)
Burnout: Crash(XBLA/PSN)
Amy(Multi)
Jurassic Park(Multi)
Kid Icarus: Uprising(3DS)
Mario Kart 7(3DS)
Diablo III(PC)
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City(Multi)
Sonic Generations(Multi)
Super Mario 3D Land(3DS)
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3(Multi)
Tekken Hybrid(PS3)
And thats just a preliminary list of whats been confirmed for specific dates in each of those months. Some of those titles might be pushed back either further in the holiday or even till 2012. And there will also be more titles added to that list(feel free to make suggestions for more to add to the list but keep in mind that I'm mostly going for major releases).
Although I didn't put any specific dates, the titles are in order of which release first/earliest in the month. I worked off of this list (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2011/08/fall-video-games-preview-the-complete-schedule/1). Also keep in mind that the majority of the multiplatform titles will not be coming to the Wii, which can be either a good thing(less money to spend) or a bad thing(less games to choose from) depending on how you look at it.
Since most of my gaming takes place on the 360, I'm obviously picking up Gears of War 3 and Halo: CE Anniversary. I'm going to get both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 but MW3 will be the only one I pick up at launch due to me not wanting to spend too much money. This will also be the first holiday season where I have all three systems so I'm also trying to decide which PS3 title I want to get. Eventually I'll pick up all three of Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 and God of War: Origins Collection. But for the holidays I can only really afford one and I'm leaning toward Uncharted 3.
So once again we have a jam-packed holiday season filled with lots of AAA titles. This is another reason why I wish games were cheaper. If all those titles were only $20 at launch I could afford to get alot more. But I digress. So which games will everyone else be picking up?

I'm getting Uncharted 3, Dark Souls, and Ico/SotC($29.99 preorder from Newegg) day one. Gundam Extreme Vs is coming out on the PS3, which is obviously Japan only, maybe not day one but whenever I get around to purchasing it.
Saints Row 3, Batman Arkham City, Dead Island, and Dead Rising 2 Off the Record will more than likely not be picked up on day one. I'm waiting until I get a good deal or price drop before picking them up. A friend keeps trying to talk me into getting Saints Row 3 early so I might pick that game up earlier depending on how long it takes to get some sort of deal.
I'll also be getting Skyrim, but it'll be once Skyrim GotY comes out and gets a price drop to $30. So atleast two years from now.
*edit*
Suikoman44 mentioned PSP and DS. Because of the topic I was only thinking 360 and PS3. I'm getting Solatorobo and Persona 2 also.

Batman: Arkham City

For me, at a minimum:
Solatorobo
Ico & Shadow of the Colossus
Rayman Origins
Sonic Generations
King of Fighters XIII
DOTA 2 beta (hopefully!)
Rayman Origins and Sonic Generations are both big enough releases to go on your list in the first post, I think.

Suikoman44 mentioned PSP and DS. Because of the topic I was only thinking 360 and PS3. I'm getting Solatorobo and Persona 2 also.
As long as yall can tell me which months they are coming out PSP and DS games are fine. I went back and added Solatoroba to the list since it looks like several people are looking forward to it.
I also added a section for possible 2011 releases. So far it's just a few games that were given vague "holiday 2011" release dates or hinted at that they would be releasing this fall.
Tron 2.0
08-28-2011, 02:09 AM
This fall i'm interested in these titles.
Zelda Skyward Sword
Dark Souls
Batman AC
Uncharted 3
KOF XIII
That's all realy.
Nirvana
08-28-2011, 03:30 AM
Games I'll be buying for sure:
King of Fighters XIII
The last KoF wasn't that great, especially since it was released around SFIV, which was widely successful. However, KoFXIII looks great from what I've seen so far, and although I've literally only played one game of it, I can tell I'll actually enjoy the game.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Marvel vs Capcom 3 is seriously a disaster. Horrible balance, with Wolverine and Phoenix easily being the top characters, DHC trick, X-Factor being stupid..even though they have a lot to work on, I'm willing to give them another chance. I'll definitely pick this one up, since I find MvC3 to be a fun game, but unfortunately there's too much that I hate in regular MvC3 to take it seriously. Hopefully it truly is improved.
I'm interesting in buying:
Halo: Combat Evolved
The first multiplayer shooting game I've really ever played, I'm thinking about picking this one up, as this game was the cause of a lot of fun in my basement with a ton of my friends and I.
X-Men Destiny
Being a Marvel fan in general, I'm always interested in X-Men games. So I'll check this one out.
On a side note, I'll definitely buy Diablo III when it comes out since it's on your list, but I can't see it coming out for awhile.
Gears of War 3, because I'm a huge gears nerd.
Space Marine because it looks awesome as hell.
Zelda Skyward Sword, because it's Zelda. Love me some o' dat golden remote, mmmmhmmm.
And possibly Kid Icarus uprising
It's really tough to live on a student budget with all these great games coming out.

I'll probably be picking up the titles I missed out on from last year, as they are typically cheaper a year later and I am budgety-minded at the moment.

08-28-2011, 10:14 AM
Star Wars: The Old Republic(PC)
Diablo III(PC)
Oddly the only 2 PC games on that list are the only two games I'll be getting. Already have SW:TOR collectors edition pre-ordered on Amazon. But at $150 I'm debating if I should just cancel that and go with a digital edition since I don't care about the statue.

Day one buys:
Uncharted 3
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection
Silent Hill: Downpour (maybe day one buy)?
Waiting til cheaper:

God of War: Origins
Resistance 3

I've been accused of having a bro-fest taste in games... after considering my must-buy list, I think that's a fair assessment.
Gears of War 3
Battlefield 3
Halo: Anniversary
MW3
There's room in the keep-the-wife-happy budget for one more game. Trying to decide between Skyrim, Uncharted 3, or Assassin's Creed. I really want Skyrim, but it comes out between BF3 and MW3, and I only have so much time I can sink into playing games. So I may hold out until after the holidays for Skyrim.

Off that list, Battlefield 3 is the only game I have the strong desire to play. It's pretty much a day one purchase for me!

I'll be buying the US release of Solatorobo. I don't really care about anything else, not until I find them heavily marked down at least.

Out of the list the only must have game for me is Batman Arkham City but even that won't be a day one release pickup for me.

08-28-2011, 05:00 PM
ICO & Shadow of The Colossus Collection
Dark Souls
Batman: Arkham City
Uncharted 3
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Dead Island
Damn, that's too many games. I have to wait on some of them to save money :(

Dark Souls
Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3 and possibly Skyward Sword since Mass Effect 3 got pushed to 2012.
That's about it. Nothing else really trips my trigger on the retail front.

Epic win is coming for us all this holiday season!
Epic win for gamers, epic lose for our wallets.
I don't really care about anything else, not until I find them heavily marked down at least.
Thats one of my main issues, so many good games and too many $60 price tags. My list looks like this:
Gears of War 3
Uncharted 3
Modern Warfare 3
Halo: CE Annivesary
But considering I have over $100 in combined Amazon credit and Best Buy gift certificates it lessons the blow alot. I'll actually be getting two of those games completely free, paying nothing out of my pocket. And with my Gears of War 3 preorder I'll have another $20 credit to put toward the remaining two games or perhaps I'll hold on to it for awhile.
But the only thing I'm going to make mandatory for myself is actually playing these as soon as I buy them. If I start to doubt I'll be playing them right away then I will just hold off until the inevitable price drops.

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 is another one I left off my list. Not going to be a day one purchase, but I'll eventually get it.

From that list here's what I've heard of before / I'm actually interested in:
September Releases
Star Fox 64 3D(3DS)
X-Men: Destiny(Multi)
Disgaea 4(PS3)
November Releases
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim(Multi)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword(Wii)
Goldeneye 007: Reloaded(Multi)
Possible Holiday 2011
Mario Kart 7(3DS)
Sonic Generations(Multi)
Super Mario 3D Land(3DS)
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3(Multi)
And I say screw Diablo III for requiring a constant internet connection to play. I'll wait till some hacker makes an offline patch, then buy it.
EDIT: I can't believe there's no Xbox 360 exclusives I even want. I'll probably get that Halo remake just to have it then as I still have yet to play any of the games in the series.

Batman: Arkham City & LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5 - 7 are all I plan on getting. I might look at Sonic Generations, but I have no plans on getting it till it's under $25. I was interested in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but, in all honesty, I'll probably just make use of Homebrew Channel for that.
Might look into getting White Knight Chronicles II, particularly because it supposedly comes with a visually improved version of the first game.

The only game that's definitely coming out this year that I'm really interested in is Solatorobo. I'll also get Battle Kid 2, but I don't think that's definitely coming out this year.

The new Zelda for sure. Skyrim probably and maybe another 3DS game.
These are the games that I might pick up this year:
- Dark Souls
- Disgaea 4
- The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Hooray for online shopping! :onfire:

Will get on release date:
FIFA 12
Batman: Arkham City
Modern Warfare 3
TES V: Skyrim
I may hold off on Skyrim as MW3 comes out three days before it.
Will eventually get:
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Halo Anniversary
Battlefield 3
Gears of War 3
Dead Island
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
It's hard to stomach paying $60 for a game when you can count on it being $20 or even sometimes less two or three months later. If you just accept that you will be three months late to the party, it's easy to save a lot of money. Those games I will buy on day one I know will give me hours of enjoyment: FIFA, Skyrim, and MW3 more so than Arkham City, but I LOVED Arkham Asylum. For Gears and Battlefield I may wait a while for the inevitable DLC-included version.

EDF already came out, so the only thing I'm really mega interested in the rest of the year is Saints Row The Third.

09-02-2011, 04:41 PM
Day One:
Modern Warfare 3
Battlefield 3
Sonic Generations (Console)
Possible Day One or Soon:
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
Sonic Generations (3DS)
Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection
Wait for Price Drop/Maybe:
Super Mario 3D Land
Rage(waiting for DLC heavy Single Disc release)
The Elder Scrolls 3: Skyrim (waiting for DLC heavy Single Disc release)
Saints Row: The Third(waiting for DLC heavy Single Disc release)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
I'm surprised at this list, there are a lot more games that I am really interested in but I suppose they were either pushed back or are released in 2012.

I'm really glad to see so much love for Solatorobo. That game deserves all the exposure it can get.
It got so much love on the first page that I threw it on the list. I'm surprised that I've never even heard of this game before everyone in here started giving it shout outs.
Another game that I don't have on the list that I'm interested in is Tekken Hybrid. It's a PS3 exclusive that features an HD remake of Tekken Tag Tournament, a demo of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and a CGI 3D movie called Tekken Blood Vengeance. Tekken is my preferred fighting game series so I'm already drooling over this one.

I never purchase new releases unless they're priced under $25 (tops), or they have offline co-op multiplayer and the wife is interested in them (mainly zombie survivor games like Left4Dead).
With that said, I'll purchase any reasonable priced HD collection early on if it's available at my price point (I can usually fine a sale), and I'll most likely purchase Dead Island if there's offline line co-op. Otherwise, I'll wait for everything on that list I'm interested in.

Not a single game on that list. I already own Minecraft, can't wait for 1.8 to come out as well as the full release in November. I want to play Borderlands 2, but that is at least a year out, and I won't buy it until it's on sale with all the DLC on Steam.
I would buy Fallout 3 GOTY or New Vegas GOTY (after it gets announced) if they were on Steam for $10 or less.
Other than that, I'm looking back in time, rather than forward.
