View Full Version : Bizarre Turbo Express control problem

Final edit!: I got it (I hope; played some Raiden and it was okay). One of the wires I ran for the caps was exposed and pressing down on metal elsewhere on the board when the screws went in. When it was open, the pressure wasn't there. Why that would affect the control board when the caps were on the audio board is beyond my current knowledge base.

Original Post:

I fixed my Turbo Express! Yay!

Oh no, now it's doing other stuff! No!

Anyway, I fixed my Express' audio and screen problems by replacing the caps as usual. Tough fix since I pulled the pads off, but I got it working.

So, I'm playing last night for two hours and the d-pad just stops responding mid-game. Nothing. Instead, the Run button is right, the select button is (sometimes) left, and the buttons remain the same. It's all games.

I pulled it apart and everything looks fine. The rubber is still great, there's no corrosion, the ribbon is tight, and I just replaced the cap on the controller board. All traces are fine too. Any other thoughts?

Edit 2: Thought I had it fixed. Once it was all back together, it started again. Could the screws be too tight?

Edit 3: Well, it definitely has something to do with the screws on the back of the unit itself. Took it all apart again, left the screws out, and it works. Put it all back, and the problem persists. Now I'm really lost

Edit 4 (why not?): Put one screw in, played for a bit -halfway through the first level- and then it started. Played Raiden and the ship just started drifting left. Played w/o screws, and made it through the first level no problem.
