View Full Version : How do you store your GB/GBC/GBA games?

Do you just keep them on the shelf, use dust jackets, have some plastic cases, ect.? I'm curious because I've just been leaving what I have loose on a shelf but I don't want dust to get the better of them so I'm debating purchasing some sort of protection if it's necessary. If so, where would you recommend picking something up from?

Plastic cases for all of them. Especially ironic for some of the sports games where the case will be more valuable than the game, lol.

I used to use these case things that hold 16 GB/GBC games. Though I've started working on getting original boxes. Otherwise they sit loose for now. For GBA I mostly have original boxes, otherwise I use DS cases that I bought cheap directly from Nintendo.

By the way, I still have a case or two that I described above, if anyone is interested in them.

DS cases from the Nintendo replacement part website for loose GBA (10 for $7 US), no idea what I'm going to do with GB/GBC as my collection is currently back up to all of one game.

Do you ever offer anything beneficial to a conversation? :|

I keep my Game Boy games in a stack on a small shelf sized for CDs. The only carts that give me trouble are GBC ones because they have that small bubble at the top that slants them and makes them hard to stack.

I used to store my original Gameboy games in hard plastic cases that were intended for collectible card games.

They worked great. I'd guess if you got "half" deck ones (I've seen slimmer ones) they'd do nicely.

My original GB games are still all in the plastic cases they originally came in. Thinking about trying to go back and pick up the boxes, but until I do, all my games are sitting in a Nuby GameBoy case that also holds the GameBoy itself.

Have boxes for my lone GBA game (Mario World) and my three GameBoy Color games (Zelda Oracle series and Mario Bros. Deluxe).

I print covers from the cover project and put them in ds cases, if I don't have the original packaging.

I store them in their original boxes lined up on my bookshelf. If a Game Boy game doesn't have its box and manual, I'm not buying it - I'll use the flashcart instead.

I keep loose carts in a shoe box, with or without cases depending on how many spares I can get. This goes back to when I first got the system and just started to collect them.

You can fit loose carts in baseball card sheets if you wanted to keep them in a binder, it works alright but if you have a lot of games the binder will get too thick to easily manage.

I use plastic supply cases like a student uses for their school supplies to organize my handheld collection.

I use a single big one for my 60 or 70 GBA carts. And I use another big one for my GB/GBC carts (My handheld collections aren't that huge, so these work well enough). And a smaller one that is less than half the size of those two to keep my UMD's in for convenience and another small one for my small Lynx/NGPC/GG collection.

My MP3 player came in a small plastic case and I use that to store my DS games. I stick it into that larger supply case I use for GBA carts. It has a lid, but it isn't hinged and doesn't snap shut like these other cases, so I keep a rubber band around it to keep it closed.

Cardboard boxes were never meant to be used as reusable game cases. And it's inconvenient keeping my DS and PSP games in their original cases, so they sit empty on the shelf. I like my system, allows it to be organized, kept together for convenience, protected from things like dust or being lost, and the cases are cheap.

These are the closest thing to the original GB/GBC cases. They hold three carts per case (nice and snug) and look the best IMO.

To my regret I've never been one to hold onto boxes for games I bought new in the past, and games I buy nowadays I tend to just get loose copies. I'm just wondering if it is worth the investment for some kind of protection for these games or if it's just overkill. I mean if they dust up a simple clean would do the trick anyway wouldn't it?

The only system I've run into real problems with dust is of course the nes.

For me its not an issue of dust, it's just a display thing. I just love looking at the original artwork before opening the box to play the game.

I was watching something on youtube and saw this guy store the gb/gba games on a small container from target that cost .99 for 3 at the dollar spot. its the best and cheapest way so far ive done. I used to keep it in a card binder but that cost a lot of mobey to invest in and the binder could get really really heavy. Ill take a picture when i get home.

I've kept mine in these for 4 years now but the DS case solution just seems to be a tad neater (although taking up quite a bit more space). You just have to go to the extra step of printing out cover art.

Same here - I wound up buying a box of DS game cases (50 of them) for 35 bux on ebay awhile back for this purpose. :D

The majority of my GB carts fit snuggly inside this oversized lunchbox-style Game Boy-shaped container:

Regrettably, there's an awkward stack of carts that sits next to it as I've about crammed as much as can be crammed into this handy guy. I'd dispense with the plastic cases, but that row at the top makes for more ideal spacing.

That's what I do for loose GB and GBC carts. GB in the plastic shells are in a nice little green box (my mom works at a greenhouse/nursery with a somewhat high-end gift department, so I end up with tons of fancy gift boxes in all sorts of small sizes). GBA games I keep in a Q-tips vanity box. For some reason, I just like those little plastic tubs: http://www.globalpackagegallery.com/main.php/v/hygiene/other/qtips/

Intec made these case that can either hold 2 GBA games or 1 GBC game (though it's not quite as snug).

I've posted this before - but it is pretty neat:

I only have one unfortunately.

The rest of my gameboys and gameboy colors live in a really big wooden cigar box arranged in three levels (face up) on the bottom level and two levels deep on a lift out tray. (I don't have boxes for most of these - I do have manuals for everything except Amazing tater).

I have boxes for all of the gameboy advances and they live in the boxes on a shelf.

I'll also chime in as using DS cases with printouts from TheCoverProject. You can fit GameBoy/GameBoy Color Games in there as well, it just requires a bit of modification to the case. They look totally badass all lined up on a shelf too.

That display unit is awesome. Is that a clear plastic swivel door on the front?

Thanks - i am really fond of this piece.

Yeah - there is a plastic lid over the games that swings out. The solid part on the left also swings out and uncovers a storage space for manuals (just the smaller dimension ones).

The legs can also be taken off and there are two holes in the back so it could be hung on a wall.

I keep most of my GBA games in an official blue GBA game binder. Each game has its own pouch that is zip locked. Some in third party single cases. Most GB games I have in official GB plastic clam shell cases.

Oh wow, I'd forgotten about that Game Boy display case thing for probably 15 years. I can't remember if ever I saw one in person or in a catalog but those always looked really awesome to me.

Doesn't seem like the kind of thing people would keep around either, probably quite hard to find today.

I have never seen another one anywhere else - I bought it at one of those electronic clearance sales in Denver awhile ago - sometime between 1994 and 2000 to the best of my recollection. Someone on these boards in Europe said they also have one - they have an index card of some sort it came with and I have a paper insert that shows some games in the case - including one called "Doomsayer" that (as far as I can tell) was never released.

I use something like this http://onetruelovevintage.com/img/inventory/item_80_l.jpg?7

I'm able to have a few rows of carts in each, and just flip through them to find what I want.

I have been printing covers for mine and putting them in DS case's I modify. I have been getting the covers off of the cover project site. There are a few covers I need that are not on there yet though.

I have also put my NGPC carts in DS cases as well. I am considering putting my Lynx carts in them as well as I find more DS cases.

Plastic cases for the games and I store my entire library (GB/GBC/GBA) in a large original GB case. Have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 games after my most recent purge. Also have one each of all the GB systems (that I know of), minus the Micro and JPN-GB Light, stored in separate cases.

For the ones I still have the original boxes for, those stay there. Loose ones go in the Gameboy plastic cases, I found a place online a few years ago that make them.

I use a large D-ring binder and those 9 section plastic sheets used for baseball cards. A GB/GBC cart slides right in and is held rather snug. They just store on a standard bookshelf like any binder, and its handy to just toss the binder into a bag or backpack for travel. If you keep GBA carts in them though, don't turn the binder upside down, or they can spill out.
