View Full Version : What game would you buy, if it was a couple bucks cheaper?

Are there any games out there, that you would defintely buy, it they were only a couple bucks cheaper?
What I mean by this, is there a game on Ebay that you've been trying to get, but the final bid is always a few dollars higher than you are willing to go.
Or you go to FuncoLand or GameStop and they have a game that if only it was a few bucks cheaper you would get it.
Now of course, most people would say, "What the hell is your problem, if it's only a couple of bucks more, just pay the couple of bucks more and get the damn game!".
Now, that line of reasoning is understandable, but for those of us that have spent alot of time Ebay, we know that you eventually start having to set some really firm limits in terms of how much you are going to spend on certain games, otherwise you end up in the poor house.
Initially, I was going after tons of games on Ebay, and buying alot of them, but then as all the money started to add up into the stratosphere, I realized that I need to set some serious limits on what I would pay for a game.
For example, I've been trying to get Bonk's Adventure for the TG-16 for awhile now. The price that I'm willing to pay is $7.56, MAXIMUM. That includes shipping. I don't care if it's just the HU card by itself, or whatever. But my Max is $7.50, and that includes shipping. So if I find somebody that would be willing to send it to me by Media Mail for $1.06, then I can bid up to $6.50 on the game. Well, I've been doing that for a couple of weeks now, and I've come within a couple of dollars a couple of times.
Sure, it might seem crazy to worry about a mere two bucks, but if you don't set a limit somewhere, then you will eventually get in trouble. Patience is a virtue. Eventually I will get that damn game. But I must be patient.
Are there any games like that for you guys?
Do you set any specific hard limits, and you don't go beyond them no matter what?

Radiant Silvergun.
Doesn't this game for like $150.00 or so?
I would think that a few bucks wouldn't make too much of a difference, but maybe like if it was 50 bucks cheaper or something.
What is your strike price on it?

I feel for you on the TG games. Bomberman and Bomberman '93 regularly just go right outside my $15 limit for it. It's damn frustrating.

Steamgear Mash for the Sega Saturn. I want it for less than $10 including shipping.
Mr. Driller for the Dreamcast. I want it for £5 or less.
There's probably some more, but those are the main offenders. Astal used to feature as well, but I got that one in the end, as part of a three game lot, and I sold on the others to bring it down to within my cost margin :) I think I might end up having to do that for the others as well.

Astal is one that I want as well. Along with the two Clockwork Knights and the first Bug! and Nights into Dreams.

Einhander at GameStop. It's like 26 bucks and I would pay 20. I might still get it.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!
This is exaclty what I"m talking about. It's only a minor difference of 6 bucks! But that 6 bucks is everthing. You have to set firm limits and stick to them. Regardless. Or you will find yourself always saying, "Well it's only a couple of bucks more, why not". Then you will find yourself broke and homeless.

Both Zelda Oracle games for the GBC.
Right now Wal-Mart has them for 40 bucks... once they drop to 30, they're mine.
I was waiting for them to lower their price on Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the GBC (was $45) but then it was sold last time I checked...

The only thing I want right now would have to be a few $100 cheaper:
Jambo Safari cab.
Oh, staying away from eBay is a virtue.

I've been looking for a couple of Dreamcast games, Confidential Mission and Powerstone 2. I'll eventually find them for around $20.00 or less. They're the last two 'big money' Dreamcast games I need. It's killing me. :/

Radient Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon Saga of course!
And if anyone knows where I can find a crapload of cheap (ie free) copies of ET for the VCS, please let me know... :?

Powerstone 2? Didn't know it was so rare! I can get it here in the UK for $15 easily (pre-owned).
Oh, and Anthony, if you really want Nights ... pm me your address, and you can have it for free. I've got a spare NTSC copy, and I already ebayed it once and got a NPB, and it only went for $2 anyway. I don't care anymore!! It's the jewelcase version (i.e. originally came with the controller box set), but it plays fine.

Hey Vroomfunkel! Can I have your copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for free? Even if you don't have a spare, don't you, like, hate that game or something? And, like, aren't you prone to epileptic seizures or something? So you really have no use for your copy of Radient Silvergun, right?

I appreciate you not wanting me broke and homeless. If I am 6 bucks from the street I have bigger problems than not having Einhander. Hmmmm. I could buy the Einhander and use my PS1 as a portable device and never work again and live on the street and play Einhander for money. I can set out a hat or something.
Thanks Anthony1!! You have changed my whole goal in life now. LOL
There have been times when I have gotten all pissy at a swapmeet and passed something up because we disagreed on a dollar. I usually regret this when I get home, but I hate to lose!

It's not necessarily rare, but rather hard to find for $20.00 or less. I've got a personal rule of not spending more than $20.00 for used 'newer generation' games. Unfortunately the going price for Powerstone 2 at GameStop and eBay is between $25-30 dollars.

I have the same rule, but I routinely break it when it comes to imports.
And the game that I've got in the sniper scope? Batsugun.
