I'm not really THAT up on PC game collecting, especially post 1990.

I picked up this weird special edition from the 90s. Unfortunately I can't find any useful info about what it should include on the internet. It is the size of a board game, and has usual premiums like a large map and a patch and books. But it has no CD. I'd love to find out what it was supposed to come with and what CD I can buy to replace it authentically, or if there was a specially labelled version of the game that will be a pain in the ass to hunt down.

Thanks,

ian

Clearly it is one of those uncommon/rare type items, as this thread is the 2nd Google search result for the game.

The third result here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/876002.html mentions it coming with a "standard CD", perhaps that means just the same disc that came with the vanilla version?

I'm going to assume you already found that forum post and read it, but perhaps you didn't read it the same way I did.

You know, I find that DP has many google references that come up and it has become one of the better repositories for information about obscure systems and games. Sort of as we'd expect.

For whatever reason, I didn't see that link, I looked through many. That seems to be the most useful post/link I've seen. Thanks so much for replying! Here is the post from that other message board quoted for easier reference:
"WHOO HOOO !!

I was looking for some new-old flt sims to add to my collection and searched Amazon.com for Jane`s F-15 Officers Edition. One came up from a book seller in California.
It came in a huge 18" box with a framed F-15 photo and WAC chart and a little spiral binder with a bunch of F-15 shots. Standard CD and handbook.
I was surprised to find no in game shots on the back. Just solid blue.
I remeber long ago CJ Martin was selling one of his copies.
Nice piece of flt sim history \:\) "

Mine doesn't have a "framed" F-15 photo, but seeing how my F-15 photo is in a suitably sized envelope that I believe is original, I suspect what I have is original. I'll try to post some pix and an inventory list for reference when I have the chance.

Here is a list of the contents in the Jane's F-15 Officers Edition set I picked up:

F-15 Setup and Troubleshooting book
Addendum for Navigator's Map included with Jane's F-15 Officers Edition
Wingmen Shortcuts card
F-15 Casual Play guide (1st ed 32pp)
F-15 Expert Flight Manual (1st ed)
F-15E patch
Time to Play EA/Jane's 1997 catalog
F-15 Photo postcard book
HUGE navigation map
F-15 high quality 8 1/2" x 11" photograph in envelope

My used copy bought at thrift didn't come with the original CD of the game, so I replaced it with one bought on eBay. So I can't speak for the exact version or appearance of the disc this set came with. And I don't know what else if anything it came with, but this set seems pretty complete. Not much else on the web with a definitive inventory.

The box is huge, it's the size of a board game. I would post pix of the set here, but since I can't permanently attach pix that are saved to the DP server, I would have to photobucket them, and who knows how long those links will be retained?

Good times. I don't know much about this specific edition but those games were always fun back in the day.

Hell, I still play Falcon 4.0 regularly.
