I was trying to come up with a complete list of Philips CD-i games earlier and I ran across a few games that I have questions about. I tried to look these up on Google, but I didn't really run across enough information to squash my curiosity so here I am.

Family Games 1**
Family Games 2**
Flintstones/Jetsons Timewarp (Timewar)?*
Foqus^
Invasion From The Planet Skyron^
Mah-Jong^
Pyramid Adventures*
Solar Crusade*
Sport Freaks^
Surf City^
Tangram^
Wimbledon Challenge**

*Games found on RFgen not listed in DP rarity guide
**Games found in DP rarity guide not listed on RFgen
^Games found on wikipedia list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CD-i_games) not listed at either DP or RFgen -- I'm assuming most of these games are non-US releases as that is what I found with some of the other games on the wikipedia list

For the most part, I would like to know if these games are actually games (as I noticed the CD-i had tons of movies and edutainment crap) and if they are US/licensed releases. But anything else you would like to tell me about them would be awesome as well.

Wasn't Invasion From The Planet Skyron the Monty Python game? It was a sketch, I do remember that. The aliens were actually giant pink French pastries who turned everybody in England into Scotsmen so there'd be no competition against them when they tried to play tennis in Wimbledon.

Any games that don't have a symbol next to them I am just interested in general information about because they are super rare.

Many of those were in fact released (I know for sure Inca II was never released for CD-i, although they did release a PC version and the first two titles on your list were Japanese market only releases) and most of them are actually games of various types. The problem you are going to run into is that "official" US release is a little hard to define with the CD-i. There was an initial batch of game and edutainment software that Philips/Magnavox released in the US along with their push into retail stores like Sears, CompUSA, Incredible Universe, Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc...There were also several other repackagings and re-launches of the system which resulted in additional waves of games being released. By the mid-90s, Philips had essentially pulled out of the US market at retail due to poor sales, but still actively sold new software for the CD-i through Philips Media Pro/PM Pro which was a mail-order catalog and phone sales center in the United States. L'Affaire Morlov, Tetsuo Gaiden and most of the European developed CD-i game library was sold by PMPRO to US customers. The only titles they didn't carry were the handful that were not translated into English.

I would check out Interactive Dreams which has some reviews of more obscure titles and prototype game info.

Here are some pictures of the cases for some more obscure games from the Room of Doom listings for a collector.

I have a prototype of the 1992 Go, I do not believe it saw a release until OlderGames put it out. I actually have probably close to 50 CD-i protos, and the only other unreleased game I've had come through my hands was The Secret Name of Ra.

I edited down the previously posted list based on the responses I've had so far. I guess my problem now is figuring out if the above games are actually US/licensed releases or if they weren't. Or is this too hard to determine, as was previously stated, based on the ability to phone order European releases?

Alright, after digging through some of my CD-i stuff, I came up with these:

Flintstones/Jetsons Timewarp. based on the description on the back, it appears like an interactive cartoon (like a choose your own adventure book).

Surf City: Definitely appears to be a game.

Wimbledon Challenge: A "quiz show" type game.

Family Games: Unfortunately, I only have a proto of this one, so I can't say for sure that it saw a release. This at least shows it was planned (though I'd be surprised if it didn't get out there), but I can't comment any further on it.

Hope this helps a little!
