This is something that I've always wondered about. Did Myst really sell better on its original platform, or did the Windows version propel it to the degree of success we all know it for?

Good question.
True story: My friend's mom was a sales rep for Broderbund in the mid-90s, but he's not a member of this site and in all honesty I don't know his mom well enough to ask her such a personal question.
I do know there was a big "I want my Myst MPC!" campaign, since it was around on Mac for a good while before being ported. I'm sure the PC port significantly boosted its sales figures.

... I thought the PC version already included the Mac version on the same disc. You know, a hybrid disc?
Every single Windows copy of Myst I've found over the years, including the one I purchased in 1999 because I didn't know any better, had Mac binaries included. Unless it was the Mac-only version, which is pretty uncommon for some reason.

There was a Windows 3.1 version, and also a Windows 95-updated version. I don't believe either contains the Mac version, which had CD-audio (from what I've heard). I'm pretty sure that both Windows releases were single-track data CDs, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Now I'm curious. I'm pretty sure my copy had Windows 3.1/Windows 95 / Mac stuff, but I can't find scans of that at MobyGames.

I don't know how many times it was re-released for Mac, but I have like two diff copies here myself for pc, Masterpiece Edition from Ubisoft, and Real Myst: The Ultimate Directors Cut, from a joint collaboration between Mattel, Sunsoft, and Cyan. Don't really need any other versions prior to those two.
