This is tempting.

Sharpshooter bundle is worth it.

Killzone 3 is pretty amazing with Sharpshooter and I assume Resistance 3 is as good.

I looked at their website, I'm assuming neither the Nav nor the Sharpshooter bundle come with the Eye camera required to make the Move work? I guess that's not part of the sale...

Right. There's that. But still, great deals on the rest of the hardware that facilitates an overall lower cost of entry.

And some people already have the PS Eye camera from an Eye of Judgement purchase.

I know I'm getting old when even half-off sales don't tempt me.

Typical Gamestop. Out of curiosity, not so much the need to purchase. I looked at the site. Titles not available online were many, so I looked at in store pickup option. The $9.99 price magically is $39.99, the $9.99 is only good online. I hate stores that pull this nonsense. Total bs. If it is a price for merchandise, it is one price.
What next? Shelf price indexing.
Cashier: That"ll be $63.87
Customer: It should be $31 and change it's on sale.
Cashier: Well you see the shelf you got it from is closer to the register and not on sale, but If you get it off the far shelf by the door it's it's $31 and change.
and...
Customer: Whoa. Stop. What? The same title?
Cashier: Yes. The one you got isn't a sale item. The one by the door is.
Customer: Ok. (walks to shelf, then back to register) There are none left there.
Cashier: Ok. That'll be $63.87
Customer: I am I being "Punked" is this going to be a podcast or on g4tv?
Cashier: What's g4tv? You want the game right?
Customer: FML I'm out of here

Um, the games and hardware will ring withe the 50% discounts perfectly fine at actual stores.

This sale is NOT online only. (there are some online restrictions, some sale prices are in effect online, some are not)

Um, from their site. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PlayStation Move Navigation Controller NEW Online price
$14.99 In-store price
$29.99 Why is the price
different in-store? Although we strive to keep our online and in-store pricing consistent, we occasionally come across special online deals that cannot be duplicated in stores or special in-store deals that cannot be duplicated online for various reasons. Rather than pass over these opportunities, we choose to allow our customers to take advantage of them.

Trust me - it will work when you get to the store. In-store sale prices aren't reflected in inventory (mark downs are, but not sale prices). When you get to the tore and they start to ring up, no matter what the sticker says, it'll be auto discounted to the sale prices.

We're already out of sharp shooters, navs, Moves, and PS Heroes.

Used PS3 Eyes are $24, which still makes the assembly that much better than the Pre-packaged ones (Sports Champions, Tiger)

Okay. No need to derail this deal thread into some kind of anti-Gamestop diatribe.

So the deal has some restrictions online. *EDIT: ACTUALLY IT DOESN'T* I'll be sure to clarify in my OP.

People who want to take advantage of this deal should simply go to a Gamestop and buy the merchandise at 50% off.

They'll get half off and they won't have to pay for mandatory, slow, inflated shipping costs. Everybody except UPS wins.

Relax Frankie. Not derailing, just pointing out people shouldn't expect an in store pickup to reflect the same price. My intent is to point out the limitations of the deal. This way people know in advance and don't go to the store only to learn they are not going to get what they thought. It will eliminate wasted travel and time loss. The site should have a more obvious terms/conditions apply section for special deals such as this. :)

No. Now you're just spreading misinformation.

Let me attempt to clear up the confusion, because where you want to prevent people from getting screwed by questionable business practices (which I'm sure we all appreciate) - I want to make sure DP members don't miss one of the best deals of the year (hopefully also appreciated).

ALL of the advertised prices will ring up at 50% off at the store.

I purchased items yesterday that automatically rang with the discount and it's been confirmed by one Gamestop employee in-thread.

Regarding "online pricing" ... After further investigation and correspondence with my local GameStop manager, I find that the online "pickup" option isn't even a PURCHASE IN ADVANCE option like some big box stores have, it's just a glorified "hold it for me" service - and when you get to the store the sale price will take effect at the register.

So, no, there's no way that you can get the wrong price on these items. It's 50% off for the next few days.

Get it while you can.

This interested me for about two seconds until I realized nothing on Move interests me. The coolest tech coming out of Sony is the PSV (sounds like a venereal disease), and I'm not getting that until the inevitable hardware revision and price cut.

Anyway, for those on the fence about Move, this should certainly tip 'em over.

I am not arguing or denying purchases made by other members here, or deny confirmations from store employees. However if there was any confusion about reading the caveat I cut/pasted. It needs to be read again.

The caveat from the gamestop site advised me this is an online promotion and explained further. NOTE, I did not write this disclaimer:
"Why is the price different in-store? Although we strive to keep our online and in-store pricing consistent, we occasionally come across special online deals that cannot be duplicated in stores or special in-store deals that cannot be duplicated online for various reasons. Gamestop changes sales and promotions all the time. They just did not present this well. That caveat was in reference to a listed sale item I requested.

That said, thanks for posting any sale thread. I certainly do my part to stimulate the economy 1 game at a time. Ok maybe many games.

If you're only interested in new, the PS Eye is $28 from Amazon as a seller.

Buy whatever Move controllers and Accessories from Gamestop, PS Eye from Amazon.

So really the best deal would be to get the Move/Nav/Sharpshooter bundle for $60 and then the camera for $30. I also see that Gamestop has Sports Champions for $9.99 preowned. Not a bad deal for about $110 out the door...

This actually looks like a better deal for anyone who also wants Resistance 3:

http://us.playstation.com/games-and-media/games/resistance-3-doomsday-edition-ps3.html

MSRP of $149.99 so you're getting the move, nav, eye, and sharpshooter for 90 bucks. You're not really saving anything versus the existing GS deal but you are getting everything in one box without having to go through at least two different vendors.

Asian version of this at Play-Asia is $99. I assume that peripherals will work no matter what version console you own and Bluray is region free.

***UPDATE*** 9/27/2011

Wanted to give everyone a heads up, K-Mart has the Sports Champions Move bundle in their ad this week for $49.99. Took the ad to Wal-Mart yesterday and they matched it for me without a problem. They also have the controller, navs, and sharpshooters at 50% off this week.

You can also get the Tiger Woods Move bundle for $50 at your local Kmart if they have it in stock. Website is sold out so not sure if other retailers will allow a match.

I know this isn't the place for such things, but would anybody be willing to swap a copy of Singstar Dance (game only) from Gamestop for a copy of TV Superstars? My local store is sold out. :(

I'm guessing "The Move" is a Fail for Sony

So is it??

substantial_snake
11-05-2011, 01:23 AM
No.

Its exactly what it was supposed to be, an addon to your console. Move functionality has been either added or developed for in a ton of games and has largely been positively received. Its been in both hardcore games (with the sharpshooter addon being awesome) and in a ton of casual games. They have sold 8.8 million units by this summer and the best evidence that its not a "Fail" is that they continue to support the thing.

What I mean by fail is...it didn't live up to the hype

What hype? The PS Move continues to live up to what very little hype there was for it. The only hype was that it was going to be a much better version of the Wii in which it greatly succeeds. The Kinect on the other hand doesn't live up to all its hype what with it selling eight million in two months. What games there are for it are very few. Hardly any games have Kinect support, even multi console titles that are released with Move support. But with the Move, many first and third party games released since the Move have support with the add on and many to be released later are also said to support it. Just played the demo of Goldeneye 007 Reloaded which has Move support.

I will agree that the Kinect is the best out of the three, but without any software it doesn't matter. Motion technology sucks compared to standard console gaming, but the Move is an add on with decent support on a few good games. The Kinect is also an add on and the Wii isn't an add on, both have next to nothing when it comes to good software, although the Wii has a little bit more since it's not an add on.

What I mean by fail is...it didn't live up to the hype

The only hype that I saw about the move the move was that it was going to act as a more accurate wiimote for the PS3..and that's exactly what it is. I can completely understand if the move isn't something that X person is interested in but Sony has delivered on solid continuing first party support. Your definition of fail seems to be lacking.

Did a motion control add-on for a console with an install base of about 50 million (at most) beat an console that's primary function was motion control with almost 90 million units sold...

Btw, Best Buy has a pack called the Move Mayhem Bundle with move, nav, camera, sharpshooter, KZ3 and Resistance 3 for $100 with free shipping. A sweet deal for certain, but reports are that there are pallets of these in every Best Buy so a price drop after the holidays may be imminent. Definitely something to keep an eye on if you're like me and looking for the right time to Move. (ba dum tsh)
