View Full Version : Daytona USA to return?
I'm betting this is a downloadable title for 360 and PS3 bound for North America too. Hopefully it's a straight port of the model 2 original and not based on the Saturn or DC versions, even though neither is bad for their time. Mark my words, it's coming! Daytonaaaaaaaa!
"The website of Australia's ratings board reveals that Sega has sought classification for Daytona USA, suggesting the much-loved racing game, first released in 1993, is bound for modern consoles. The classification listing suggests the game is in development for multiple platforms. We've sought comment from Sega."

A port of the original would be nice, but it's also an opportunity to release a brand new game in the same arcade style. Whatever it is, it would be nice to have online multiplayer.
Sega is sitting on so many cool franchises; it's good to see them get one out every once in a while. Now where's my Streets of Rage 4?

Now this would be awesome! I only hope it's not as mediocre as that recent Sega Rally game they released for XBLA and PSN.

I really want to get excited for this but I have a feeling it'll end up being a DC port like Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi with no online play.

I thought SROA was pretty good, actually.

This already happened a couple years ago, a la Sega Racing Classic.

While it would nice for something "new", I'm not going to hold my breath.

Don't think they want to open their wallets to NASCAR for the license.

While I would love a straight port of the arcade original, I'd also like to see a new Daytona USA game or some kind of compilation of the higher end titles (arcade Daytona USA, Daytona USA 2, Daytona USA 2001 / Daytona USA Dreamcast). While it was quite different than the arcade original, the Dreamcast Daytona USA was a love letter from Sega to people that had been filling arcade coinboxes since the original's release. I really dug the art direction as I always have with the series, the addition and inclusion of all the circuits (Silver Ocean Causeway doesn't count), and the made up sponsors and teams.

Four player races on the SegaNet were a blast (frequent disconnects or not) so I'd love to see this return with a wider field as well. For almost an entire year, almost every night from about 11:30PM until 3:00AM or so me and the same group of a dozen or so people would be in the lobby racing.

They don't have to open their wallets to NASCAR for any license. They just need to once again pick up the license from Daytona Motor Speedway for the Daytona USA name. With how much the speedway has been hurting (closing attractions and so forth) I don't see why there would be any problems. The day HORNET High-Class is no longer featured as a sponsor in a Daytona USA game is the day I quit playing them.
Desert City, mirror reverse please. And some freaking lyric translations would be awesome! Still haven't hammered this one down. It's either "Let's go rope and start your camel" or "Let's go over to the Tokyo camel" or alternating combination of both.

Yep, they just have to license the Daytona USA trademark from the International Speedway Corporation, the firm that leases (Technically, the Daytona International Speedway is owned by the county and is on long term lease to ISC) and operates the Daytona International Speedway. Sega never had a NASCAR license for their Daytona USA games (Although I do believe they did an arcade NASCAR racer 10 or 12 years ago or so).
Of course ISC and NASCAR have many of the same major shareholders like the France family, they're just under different corporate umbrellas.

I would have orgasms if we finally got a home version of Daytona 2 Power Edition. An arcade perfect conversion of the first one would be cool too, but I have the Saturn version, which plays well, despite looking a bit crude.

The Dreamcast version is absolute garbage. Whatever they do, I hope it has nothing to do with that abomination.
Isn't there a relatively new emulator on the PC that can run the original Daytona almost flawlessly?
I finally have a PC with some power, I should look into that..

Oh, man. I used to love to blast people into the wall as I passed them. (I still do that in every racing game.) Either snag their rear & turn them into the wall or side-swipe their front end & do the same. I love it. I'm sure I've put more tokens into the original than any other arcade.

So much this. I guess that's what happens when you have Genki port and update your flagship racing game. I've never seen them get car physics or handling remotely enjoyable.
