I learned a while back through various interwebs that River City Ransom 2 was coming to WiiWare in Japan this Summer. "Awesome!" you say? Yes. Awesome. Anyway, summer is pretty much over and I haven't read anything else about this resurrected cult classic. The game is designed by Miracle Kidz, which has members of the now defunct Technos team working on the project so it ought to have the same spirit and flavor of the original. This could be really great. Any former River City Ransom fans out there eagerly awaiting this game too?

This is the first I've heard of it, sounds like it could be interesting. I hope they don't try to make it better than the original though, can't get much better than that :P

There literally are no news articles past the flurry that were posted in March.

PS: Anyone played their "Cross Country" Famicom game? Pretty hokey. Called Downtown - Nekketsu Koushin Kyoku - Soreyuke Daiundouka.

There was a port of super dodgeball in the indie store for awhile. I gave them 800 points for it.

Yes I have. "Hokey" is a good word for it alright. I thought their ice hockey game for the Famicom was pretty sweet, though.

Do you mean what was released stateside as Crash 'n' the Boys Street Challenge?

So is this a port of the Super Famicom sequel, a revival of the canned GBA sequel, or a completely new project?

This is a "true" sequel, supposedly, to the original. Let us hope for the best.

No, no. Crash n' the Boys is something different and is a fairly fun game in the Kunio series. I ought to revisit Crash n' the Boys come to think of it...

So... anyone hear/read anything about the long awaited sequel to River City Ransom finally becoming a reality? Perhaps through sympathetic magic my resurrection of this thread will in turn resurrect the venerable cult classic.

Here's hoping. ^^;

Well, this isn't quite what you're looking for, but it's an interesting story that may have something to do with some of the delays:

The article was really old and used to have pics from the game, but I don't know what happened to them. I wonder if Million is using this game or if they made a whole new one?

It looks like River City Ransom 2 might become a reality after all with a fresh studio, Combit, jumping in the mix with the old crew, Million, which has some of the original Technos team members who made the original:

"I am beyond excited to reveal today that we have started development on an official, worldwide follow-up to River City Ransom. With strong followings in North America and Japan, we will work closely with Million to ensure it is the best game it can be for fans on both continents."

I've never helped kickstart anything before, but I'd throw down for this. I'm not getting my hopes up too much, but it would be nice to see this project finally happen. August 2014 is the projected release date for a Windows platform version of the game. The official website (http://rivercityransom.com/) has a mailing list in case you want to stay in the know of what is going on with this project.
