Okay, I have two extra Game Gears, and I've replaced their caps on the main board, and the 47uf one on the audio board.

On one, the screen is fine, nice and bright, but there's a slight buzz to the audio and carts won't work. No sound, no pic.

On the second, the screen remains too dark, and the audio makes this god awful screeching sound. Carts do work though and game sound can be heard over the speaker annoyance.

I have a third with a dead screen (dead pixels all over, displays lines) that I can butcher for parts, i.e, the board with the power switch, audio board. Are those interchangeable?

Thanks!

Occasionally replacing caps on a dead GameGear does nothing sadly. But I'd double check the orientation of your capacitors in case you wired one in backwards by mistake. That can definitely cause what you're seeing but might not be it.

IIRC most of the daughterboards are interchangeable.

Triple checked the caps. All of them are correct. Referenced some FAQs online for those not marked on the board just to be absolutely positive, and yeah, polarity is fine.

However, I just noticed there's some heavy corrosion on the legs of the cart port on one of them (with the bright screen). I wouldn't doubt that was part of it.

The one with the dark screen remains a mystery.

I know this is really basic, but did you try adjusting the contrast on the dark screen one?

Yeah. It's the whole, "look at an angle to play," the thing the caps should have fixed.

Check to see if Q11 is still on the board, I've had this transistor blow off the board before never to be found.
