I've been on a controller kick lately and I'm interested in picking up an Arcade Stick for the Genesis. I' particularly interested in the Genesis Official 6 button and the Asciiware Fighter Stick SG-6. I've heard good thing about both of them and they are both inexpensive but I'm looking for other opinions on a good stick for the Genesis.

I've got the sega 6 button joystick and love it. It's not as heavy duty as the 3 button, but it's great nonetheless, plus you need those extra 3 buttons for fighters.

I have a Asciiware Fighter Stick and love it with Genesis arcade games and many Atari 2600/7800 games.
The SuperNes version is also a nice arcade stick.

I had a Fighter Stick SG-6 and LOVED it to pieces when I was younger. MK3, WWF Arcade, and SSF2 were fantastic to play with it.
Then one day (when I was 13) I was playing Ecco 1 on Sega CD. I was trying to beat one of the Atlantis levels for HOURS, and I finally reached the end, only to have an effing shark come out of NOWHERE and killme in 1 hit.
I Ragefaced and slammed the stick down (really wasn't from a height of any more than a foot) and saw the joystick break off and fly across the room.
Glue did not help. It was Dead On Impact.
First thought after was "crap... where am I gonna get another $30?"
Still, I loved that controller. The only silver lining was it led me to purchase an SG ProPad 6, which was also a pretty awesome pad I highly recommend.

The Ascii stick is the best one I've used on the Genesis. It takes a little getting used to from the heavy duty ones out for modern consoles, but it is pretty solid and responsive.
I'm not a huge fan of the Genesis six button stick or the Capcom stick, but I have a friend who swears by both of them.

I have several of these. The SG-6 is pretty good but my favorite is the Power Clutch SG, also made by ASCII. It only has three buttons but it's well made. I prefer it over the official Sega one.

I picked up a 3 button arcade stick from a goodwill for $3. In fact thats the only gaming thing I have ever found in my couple of times stopping at thrift stores. I don't have a Genesis to play it on yet though :(
I have a 6-button Sega stick, and it is awesome. I love it and won't go back to a pad if I can help it.

I have both the ASCII 6 button arcade controller and the Sega 6 button controller. I prefer the Sega unit. There's too much throw-distance in the stick of the ASCII unit for me. That said, the build quality on both is pretty good.

I used to have the 6-Button stick. To be honest, I'm spoiled by the more arcade-style sticks available on modern consoles and sticks like that don't do it for me like they used to. Though I guess they can be good for a few things.

I just snagged a 6 Button Arcade Stick from a thrift store for a song on half-off Saturday. Love it. I doubt it will get much play on the Genesis, though, as this baby was built for my Atari 7800 and its library of Golden Age arcade classics.

I had the official sega 6 button stick and enjoyed it greatly. I now use a Battlestation II with happ sticks. I love it because I can use it on most of my retro consoles and it is pretty well made.

If you want a stick more like these, be on the lookout for an Arcadian (for American-style parts) or some Horis (for something more Japanese). Actual arcade-style arcade sticks have actually been around for many console gens, but it seems only the newer-gen ones are common, perhaps because of the evolution of the tournament scene bringing up demand for them.

Like Edmond Dantes, I too have fallen prey to the modern Japanese arcade stick bug. It isn't a particularly cheap option even if you are handy with a soldering iron, but Genesis shoot 'em ups truly play like a dream with a Seimitsu stick. It really is tough to go back now.
That said, I've always been partial to the Sega-branded "Arcade Power" sticks for the Genesis. The original three-button was a seriously beautiful and luxurious piece of hardware in its day despite ultimately being useless for SFII. I have the six-button and its great.

I prefer the SG-6 to the Sega 6 button stick by a great margin, I think the balltop on the Sega stick is uncomfortably large. But sometimes I still use it because I like that official Sega feel....
