View Full Version : Glitches on NTSC Carts played on modded PAL Consoles?

So I modded the region chip on my PAL NES console to play some imported NTSC cartridges and while they work for the most part there are some worrying glitches.

My biggest concern is that the text bubbles in Final Fantasy are being cut off, meaning chunks of dialogue from the game is missing. I was wondering if there was a fix for this situation?

Or will I have to just purchase another console either an old NTSC NES or some sort of clone console?

I have a clone setup just for the few odd carts that have glitches, ala Final Fantasy.

I'd first ask about finding an NTSC NES. Top loaders are more expensive but worth it once modified for video/sound quality. The cart mechanism is drastically more reliable, and easier to make play Famicom games. (no issue with fitting oversized carts)

Clones aren't too bad for casual use. Be aware they do not adhere to Nintendo specs correct. There's no way to run quite everything. A few licensed games won't work on clones, while some pirate games won't work on real hardware.
