Dang Classic Apple Macs!

Picked up a nice Mac Plus 1mb setup at a yard sale today with a hard disk and some other stuff. Booted it up, transport disk stuck in the drive, managed to get it out with a paperclip and soon after, the screen dies. I think it works otherwise, I can hear the boot beep still.

My success rate with classic Macs working is like 1 for 5 now! I had 1 DOA, 2 with the screen screw up pattern (one of which had that happen after it worked), and this one with the screen dieing right before my eyes. I know they are repairable, but I have no plans to learn to discharge the monitor.

Anyone else have such bad luck with these things? Sucks because I would love to have kept this unit. All I have in my collection is a working SE/30. Well, it was working last time I tested it. I really just want a color mac classic and something like this one, a Mac plus. Maybe a CIB unit would be nice.

Mac computers of the age of the Mac clasic suffer from capacitor rot. The fluid in the capacitors leaks out damages the motherboard. Some wash the motherbords and they work again but at some point I think you have to replace all of the capcitors. There are postings on the internet about how to wash the fluid off.

Not quite classic but I have an opportunity to buy 9 imac g3 systems all of which need to be reassembled I can purchase them for 100 dollars total worth it? Also good magazines/sources for old mac stuff?

Not if they're in pieces.
I see perfectly working iMacs all the time just sitting on the curb for collection.
Everytime I decide to pick one up, I end up installing an OS and messing around with it for a few days, then putting it out front for someone else to take and mess around with.

i wouldn't mess with them. they're not particularly worth anything, and you could get a working g3/g4 imac for the same price or cheaper. keep this in mind, if get them and put them together and they dont work, you're stuck with 9 dead crts that are sometimes impossible to get rid of.

I have no idea what I'd do with nine of any computers. I guess I had some fun with Bolo back in the day in the Mac computer lab, but can you find eight other people you'd want to play Bolo with?

I think the last iMac I saw on the curb had its display cord cut off.

iMacs don't have display cords.

The power cord is removable. It's the same three prong dealy as any other computer.
