Well the original launch box finally died, wont power up ( think something may have happened during one of the many summer storms. Anyways, was wondering if you can swap one hdd to another system. I would hate to lose saves etc. Did some google searching and couldn't find anything on this. Thanks in advance!

Yes you can. Although if you want to get the new slim xbox, you need one of the transfer cables bring your data over.

Well, if you're confident in your screwdriver ability, you can just pop the old 360 HDD out of the proprietary casing and then just slide it in to the slim 360's drive bay. It won't be a perfect fit without the slim HDD casing, but it will work, and if you're concerned about the fit, you can find slim HDD cases online probably for less than the cost of a transfer cable.

That said, if you get a slim with a bigger HDD than your old drive, a transfer kit would probably be a better idea. The other thing is probably best used if you get the low end 4Gig slim that comes without a drive.

(of course, assuming it's a 360 and not an XB1)

sorry thought I made it clear in the title, its the original xbox, NOT the 360. Thanks!

You need to first unlock the original hard drive, which is a problem if you can't boot up the console, then unlock it, and then lock it with the key from the console you wish to put the hard drive in.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass and involves modding the original console, and it won't be possible to do that if you can't get it to boot.

Your best bet is to just get your xbox repaired, if possible.
From your original post, I'd guess that it's a power supply problem.
That's not too hard to fix.
