All right, so I'm getting back into PC gaming after taking a ten year break from it. Buying quite a few PC games I used to play, but no longer own. That brings me to Blue Shift.

Is the High Definition graphics pack a mandatory install? I'd very much prefer to play HL and OpFor with their original graphics from 1998/1999. Same goes for Blue Shift, but aren't the Blue Shift graphics automatically "High Definition"?

I don't think there is a source version of OF and BS, or at least i only see one in the catalog of each without the addition of "source" in the name as it is the case for HL.

I would just go ahead and buy them if you really want them, but ofcourse you always could just get the original versions on CD from ebay.

While we are at it: Don't spend to much time with stuff you already played, you have loads of catching up to do, make sure you play portal for example. HL2 + Episodes been great! 10 years means you even missed warcraft 3 + addon, you must play those or you are not complete. Or how about bioshock or oblivion? You really have some catching up to do. All mentioned should be 10$ or so now. Let me know what kind of stuff you preffer and we can recommend a view. :)

Actually, a majority of the games on PC I'm buying I already own/played on console (Orange Box, Bioshock, Oblivion, Deus Ex, Arkham Asylum, etc.). I just want to play them at 60fps and on highest graphical settings and resolution. Though I did just buy Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Very anxious to start playing that. I should have both Crysis games by the end of the year.

Oh and, I wasn't talking about Source, I was talking about the High Definition graphics pack that came bundled with Blue Shift back in 2001. I used to own the original HL plus it's expansions, and I forget if the HD pack for HL and OpFor was mandatory or not.

Well i guess it probably is with steam, as it isn't typical for valve to make any extra effort these days, but i do not know, it's a educated guess though. You really should keep playing on the pc though, it's better for progress.

No, it's not mandatory. It's an additional, optional download.

Just follow the instructions there.

Actually, I was talking about the disc version. However, I'm sure that it is not mandatory, if the Steam version is not mandatory.

Yeah, if I recall correctly, you have the choice to install it when you run the installer.
