Have you played Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals (DS) ?

There aren't a lot of reviews of this game on gamerankings.com, and at least one of them is a huge downer.

Do you have personal experience with this game? What did you think of it?

I refuse to play it out of principle. They completely bastardized one of my favorite RPGs. The new character designs look bloody awful, and they completely threw away all of the original's gameplay (and unlike many RPGs, it actually has lots of interesting, unique gameplay elements).

I have it, and I also have the original Lufia 2, to avoid feelings like this I just treat it as a completely new game that just happens to share some similarities with Lufia 2. Its actually not bad I enjoyed what I played of it and I should try to get further in it.

Only played a few hours in before losing interest. Seems to be only loosely based on Lufia 2 rather than a remake as there were already a lot of differences in story and characters. Gameplay was very similar to the recent Ys games on PSP. Didn't seem to bad, just very generic.
