The polls are asking for people's favorites. People are entitled to deciding on their favorites in any way they wish. Even if they have very little experience, people are likely to have a preference, and those preferences may change over time, with or without additional experience, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a matter of expressing an opinion, not of stating a fact (which can't exist on this subject anyway, since there's no objective "best").

Not even close. I like bacon cheeseburgers and beer, and I never tried calamari or sushimi. Can't I still like burgers n beer the best?

They all sucked, especially the Atari systems
Favorite 3rd Gen Console
NES--it made games a huge social event with all our friends
Favorite 4th Gen Console
Genesis--was cooler than what Nintendo was doing at the time
Favorite 5th Gen Console
PS1--they had so many good games back then
Favorite 6th Gen Console
Xbox--successfully brought the arcade feeling home with Xbox Live
Favorite 7th Gen Console
Xbox 360--took XBL and social gaming to a new level, made fps the #1 genre
Of course, if you don't like fps games then that wouldn't really matter to you. But they are my favorite genre. Also, the 360 was the first time I've ever bought a successor system from the same console maker. Starting with Atari during the second gen, I jumped to Nintendo and then Sega and then Sony and finally to Microsoft. Today I have pretty much every system from the third gen until now but as far as when you are only getting one system for an entire gen I kept jumping ship to another console maker until this gen.

I find the thread title here misleading, if you wanted everyone's favorite consoles the thread title should of said Favorite Consoles and not Best Consoles. Judging which consoles are best is pretty easy based on sales alone but favorites are all up to the individual. (yeah I am being a bit of a stickler but whatever lol)
Doesn't seem fair to add my voice to generations I had no experience with so Ill skip the first couple of options.
Third Gen Game Console
Sega Master System
Fourth Gen Game Console
Sega Genesis/MegaDrive (Why split up Sega CD and 32X?)
Fifth Gen Game Console
Sony Playstation
Sixth Gen Game Console
Sony Playstation 2
Seventh Gen Game Console
Sony Playstation 3 (special mentions to the PSP and Nintendo DS)

Well their are several things:
-Underdog Factor against the largely dominate Nintendo
-Violent Games that Nintendo Largely shunned or heavily modified
-Blast Processing
-Streets of Rage
-Sonic = Mascot with a 90's in-your-face attitude
-It did what Nintendidn't
In all seriousness your not going to get a straight answer, its all totally subjective fanboy bullshit at this point. I will say as a child of the nineties it did feel "cooler" then Nintendo largely due to great add campaigns at that time period. None of it really matters now but back then if I had to pick a cooler console the Genesis would win hands down. lol

1st Gen: Pong, yo.
2nd Gen: Atari 2600.
3rd Gen: The NES.
4th Gen: SNES. Zelda, Super Mario World, and Street Fighter II.
5th Gen: PS1.
6th Gen: PS2.
7th Gen: I stopped caring. I own and use both. I've gone through fewer PS3 consoles than I have 360s, so that's worth considering.

6th Gen: PlayStation2 This was the toughest one to choice for me. I really loved all of the consoles of that generation. PS2 wins on volume alone.
7th Gen: Xbox 360 This generation is the easiest to call. It's really not even close.

I know right. So why is the 360 your favorite when the PS3 is the best?Please; I only use my PS3 to play PS2 games. I'm really not a fan of the DS3 controller (I've always hated PlayStation controllers), especially compared to the 360 controller, which means 90% of cross platform games I get for the 360. There are more exclusives I care about on the 360 than the PS3 as well. It doesn't help that my original fat PS3 is a hideous, high gloss eyesore, not unlike the equally atrocious new glossy slim 360s. Honestly, PS3 is my number 3 pick for this generation.

#2 CV - It's just a lot of fun, even though the 2600 is the most influential it's not my favorite, and the do i have to remind you about ET and pacman?
#3 Nes - no comment needed.
#4 SNES - It's like the Nes just better! :D
#5 PSX - It was a Playroom revolution.
#6 NGC - It also plays GB, GBC and GBA stuff, and i find the rest of the choices somewhat boring, aside from the XBox which i personally hated though.

Had a Dreamcast and then a GC but became disheartened and gave up with consoles after
this and completely missed the rest of this era (ps2/xbox) until current gen consoles.

I got rid of my current gen consoles nearly 2 years ago and are mostly a retro gamer now but i prefer the PS3 as a machine,its a pity Sony themselves are very sloppy.

1st Gen: Didn't really play anything from then until way later.

6th Gen: Xbox, even though I started out hating it.
7th Gen: Don't rightly know. I want to tip my hat to the 360 but had some pretty good experiences on the Wii and PS3.

1: No comment - I have no idea what systems make up this generation
2: Colecovision - I can never figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do in 2600/Intv games
3: NES
4: SNES - honourable mention to TG16
5: Saturn - this one was tough, I typed PS1 at first but Panzer Dragon Zwei shifted it over to Saturn
6: PS2
7: PS3 - if the 360 had free online, it would have won. Plus because sony leaked my credit card info all over the net, I finally got off my ass and got a different credit card with a much higher limit, much lower interest rate and reward points - thanks Sony LOL

1st Gen: Missed out on this...
2nd Gen: Atari 2600. Tunnel Runner, Dragon Fire, Venture etc. There were some good times with those games.
3rd Gen: NES. I love my Master System, but the NES had a bigger variety of classics.
4th Gen: Genesis and Sega CD. I bleed blue from here on out. Turbo Duo is a close call but Sega was my first true love.
5th Gen: Saturn is my favorite by miles and miles. But really, when you experience a story like Panzer Dragoon Saga's, everything else just seems a bit shallow. Amazing system with amazing games.
6th Gen: Dreamcast. My love for gaming pretty much died off after the DC. But then again, for me, few games can top Skies of Arcadia, Out Trigger, Berserk, Armada, Blue Stinger, Shenmue etc.
7th Gen: Xbox 360. The only current gen system I care about and only for a small selection of games. The game that sold me on a 360 was Bullet Witch. IMHO one of the most enjoyable games ever made.

the 2nd and 3rd generations are a gimme-2600,NES
4th Gen: Genesis- A huge library of "good" but not "great" games. SNES get a little too love around here.
5th Gen: PS1- Had more games and was cheaper to than the N64. All N64 really had was Goldeneye.
6th Gen: Dreamcast (PS2 was lame, sorry)
7th Gen: Wii- Has alot of the classic games I loved growing up, but updated.

What always strikes me (as a European) is how popular the NES is in the States, I've always found it to be an awful pile of bits, outperformed by just about anything else from it's generation (with the exception of the Spectrum).
I never really cared much for it and it has few games I actually wanted to play, but granted, i know little of it's game catalog.
