Since we're (probably) in the last year of the original DS's lifespan, I thought it might be interesting to look back on one of the unique features of the system, namely being able to put it into sleep mode simply by closing the unit. I've also noticed over the years that some games have cute sound effects that play when going in and out of sleep mode, and I thought it would be interesting to have a list of which games do what... I'll start things off...

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem:
When you close the unit, Mario has several different complaints, including "Ouch! My head!" and "Hey! Come-a back here!". Upon opening the unit, he shouts out "Here we gooo!"

Transformers Animated:
The traditional "Transforming" sound effect is hear both going in and out of sleep mode

The Legendary Starfy
Starfy makes a "Waaaahhhhhgggg!" noise when you close the unit, and a happy sound when you open it back up.

Obviously there are many more... which are your favorites?

There should also be a list of the games that don't utilize sleep mode (ie: games that don't shut down). Zoo Keeper and Heroes of Might & Magic are the two that I know of.

New Super Mario Bros:

Entering sleep mode: "bye-bye!" Exiting sleep mode: "It's me, Mario"

Super Scribblenauts has an adorable record scratch sound that caught me by surprise the first time. It's really cute.

Scribblenauts has that too - but I think they made the sound much too loud compared to the rest of the game.

Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck has an entire minigame that you play with the DS closed, pressing the shoulder buttons and listening to Daffy. (Apparently it's only accessible once every 24 hours, probably because some people actually might want to put their DS to sleep when they close it.)

P.S. if you want to buy my copy, let me know.

Super Mario 64 DS does the same thing as well
