After a conversation with our very own jess, he and I got to recalling some games with "good" and "bad" ending options where you either save the day, or become a cronie of the twisted evil.

Besides Streets of Rage and Magic Sword, anyone else think of any?

Dungeon Explorer for TG16. Go on. Sit on the vacant throne. You know you want to. ;-)

This is just off the top of my head...

Wing Commander 3 - You can be the hero of the day, or get captured and executed at the end by the Kilrathi

Colony Wars - It had several endings, ranging from total victory to absolute destruction depending on how many 'key' missions you were successful in and what path it put you on.

Chrono Trigger - Lose to Lavos, the world ends :/

NAM-1975 - Lose to the final boss, world ends

Aero Fighters - Ditto

Oh yeah I forgot about Chrono Trigger/Cross' multiple endings.

Worst Ending: Suikoden II. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? The game just ends! You beat the game and you get a one sentance answer to what happened to everyone except for the main villian! ARGH.

Bad: FF8. Give me a break.

Good: FF7.

Best: Earthbound.

Suikoden II has a better ending than that, although you have to bend over backwards to get it. Not only do you have to find all of the allies (there are about 120 of them), but you have to tell Nanami to avoid the arrow near the end of the game... the catch here is that you get a half second to do it. Very frustrating. Make sure you don't overwrite your saved game after this encounter, or else it'll be impossible to get the best ending.
There's another step to getting the best ending, but perhaps I've said too much...

That's horseass. I only have one save file, and it's at the end boss.

Worst: Starforce for NES

Coming soon, SUPER STAR FORCE!

-It never came (well, in America it didn't). The Japanese version of Starforce has no ending. Go figure!

Horrible: Ultima (NES)...it only says "Congratulations"

Horrible game too.

Suikoden 2 has three endings -- not counting the one you can get if you bail eariler in the game when you have the chance to.

The normal ending -- You accept rule of the country, and Jowy vanishes.
The good ending -- You find Jowy and engage in a fight with him, and he dies.
The best ending -- Naomi lives (as allready said) and you find Jowy and don't kill him.

Each of the endings gives a scene at the end which hints at the ending that you can get that is even better (normal hints at good, good hints at best).

And yes, having more then one save is a must for ANY game. :D

The ending to FF7 SUCKED. One of the worst ones I ever saw. By compairson, FF8 and 9 had very good endings.
