I downloaded a game a little while ago. It's a freeware Windows game made by a team of coders in Brazil who vanished from the internet after their website got hacked. Their games are simple, but they also ah, used stuff from other games. Mostly music and sound effects.

Anyway, one of the games has music from what sounds like a Sega Master System game to me, but I didn't grow up with the system nor am I a big fan of it, so I'm completely confused as to where this music might be from... so I'd like to ask for your help on this. Can someone tell me where this music came from?

This MP3 was made from the various WAV files included. It's about 1 MB, so it won't take long to download.

Thanks!

I tried, sorry. I agree it sounds like SMS, but I dunno which. None of it's from Golvellius, and it sounds like dungeon-crawler music, so that was my first guess. Good luck on this one!

The music that starts at 0:06 is the theme from Pitfall II (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akKQfQ7ssiA), although it's been slowed down a bit and it sounds like it's played in a different key. Kind of odd considering it's an from an Atari 2600 game.

The rest of the music sounds to me like NES songs (Instead of SMS). The tune that starts at 2:28 sounds very familiar to me but I can't recall what it's from.

The game plays like a Pitfall clone... so it makes a LOT of sense. You just answered what game it was ripping off. :D

And yeah, it sounds like an SMS sound chip game to me. I don't think this is NES music, it just doesn't sound right.

Oh gosh, I should probably rephrase what I said. The music might be played on an SMS sound chip, but it sounds to me like the tunes themselves were taken from NES games...

Your search might be more fruitful if you started with MSX games.

Ah crap, I recognize that very first part of the clip! It's from either a japanese or pirate nes game...it's a death sound. I know it. Early generation nes. Ah! Let me think on this, it's totally on the brain.

Yeah, this sounds a lot more like MSX audio chips than SMS to me.

EDIT: Sure sounds an awful lot like MSX Pitfall II.

The last part of the track reminded me of the Cyber Shinobi music.

That's it! Thanks, now the game makes a LOT more sense. It's basically an MSX Pitfall II clone, except you have a timer and are running from someone who wants to beat you up. It even features screen by screen play like the MSX game.

And sorry, ccovell, I know next to nothing about the MSX... but the developers used to make maps for the MSX, so...
