yet another video game podcast thread

http://www.nowyoureplayingwith.com/

The topic of episode 1 is stories from the trenches of video game store clerkdom. Most video game players and collectors contemplate if not flat out dream about working in a video game store. But even a dream job is still a job. You have to put up with a lot of crap from every angle while earning little respect. So is that sealed copy of Persona 1 worth it? Listen and decide for yourself.

The audio is a bit on the quiet side, we are working on remixing the volume levels. In the meantime, I posted a louder version on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OYuYdLDCoI

Completely hilarious, and I am very glad now that I've never worked games retail. I don't ever want to know what the smell of roaches is like...

actually, its not hideous. its just a really strong musty smell. but once your brain learns what it is, then well.....

I'll take your word for it, but I'm a little disturbed that you are somehow trying to stand up for roach droppings LOL

The real question is, when's the next show?

Just..wow. the amount of SHIT that goes on in American retail is insane. I've worked retail mall jobs and dealt with some assholes, but nothing like what you've experienced.

The story about the guy falling flat on his ass twice at the end had me rolling with laughter. Absolutely awesome.

we have some segments in the can, and were planning on recording episode 2 on sunday. getting 4 adults into the same room at once is a difficult task.

Bars don't seem to have much difficulty with that. ;)

Anyway, trying to get into a regular recording schedule is good, because people are more likely to dedicate time for listening when it's predictable. I listen to a lot of podcasts personally (currently 9, one of which updates twice a week and all but one of the others updates once a week) and whenever I find that I'm "subscribed" to more than I have the time for, the ones that don't output on a regular basis tend to be dropped first, even if I enjoy the content. Just something to consider if you really want to build a fanbase.

i know, its going to be difficult to do this on a regular schedule. tatton works 60+ hours/week in IT, cory is a physics major with 2 part time jobs, and i have a full time job, and when i am not working i am a part-time stay-at-home dad of a 2 year old while my wife works part time in the evenings.

once episode 2 is out and we can establish an RSS feed and an itunes entry and what not, we are going to try a season format. we will put out 6 episode chunks all at once, at semi regular intervals. it works for tv shows, i think its worth a try in podcasting.

I just have to say, this is like the greatest Podcast ever. It's so funny and interesting. Never stop! I imagine you guys/gals will eventually run out of stories though :(

that is incredibly flattering, thank you so much

as for future episode, the podcast will be more of me, tatton, and cory discussing various things about gaming. we have some people lined up for interviews (other game store employees for instance) and we have some other contacts that we would like to interview (no spoilers just yet).

but the premise of the show is simply two or three of us talking about video games. whether that is playing, collecting, shopping, clerking, or whatever. when we were out and about hunting down video games, we have fantastic conversations about video games (and other subjects). and since we are friends, we could debate things we disagreed on without resorting to message board hijinx or calling each other nazis.

these conversations are the the stuff great podcasts are made of. why not capture these conversations and share them with the world. lord knows, there are enough of us out there that give a damn about this stuff. getting these positive reactions from people from places like digital press knocks my socks off and is a great kick in the ass to keep pressing. i hope our upcoming stories can live up to this episode.

Lots of updates

http://www.nowyoureplayingwith.com

We have posted 2 new episodes.

In addition to the monthly podcast, we have a weekly mini podcast "Video Game Roulette" where Tatton and I play a game in my collection chosen by random.org.

There is an RSS feed on the website, and we will (hopefully) have the podcast available on iTunes next month.

I also appeared as a guest on Kevin Smith's SModcast network show Bagged & Boarded for a manic video game chat.
