Don't reply if you wanna keep it a secret.
I'm bringing an awesome SEGA MASTER SYSTEM lot, System, hookups, gun, and about 30 games. and to make it interesting, I'm throwing in a couple rares: a loose Astro Warrior/Pit Pot cart, and a loose Fire & Ice cart.
Pretty sweet, eh?

Money and a pretty big commodore 64 lot. Takes up to much room.

I've got a pocket full of quarters, but it should be pointed out at this time that I'm headed for the arcade, not the auction. :-D
Seriously, I'm going to bring my camera and a nice clean hanky to wipe my jaw off, I imagine it'll be hitting the floor. A lot. I doubt I've have quite enough spending dough on me to partake. O_O

Um, Earl? The arcade's free. ;)
The only thing valuable that I own is my mint boxed Glib, and I'm not getting rid of that come hell or high water. :P
Of course, I could auction off a chance to touch my boobies, but I don't think that'll fly. :P

Eh, I'll spill. How's about a Vectrex? How's about a Vectrex with a John Dondzilla custom-made Vectrex joypad? (Yes, the original Vectrex stick works and is included.) Oh, and how's about a Sean Kelly Vectrex multicart too, so you have the *entire* Vectrex library as well, including homebrews? Yup, if you ain't got a Veccy, this'll be the package to be watching for.

Before you lug anything BIG to CGE for the auction, run it by me first! The auction is only 2 hours and we really want the best/most requested stuff on the block in that amount of time (this is approximately 30 auctions).
I'd hate to have something "rejected" because it didn't make that cut, though there IS the CGE Swap Meet right before the auction where you could work out a deal or sale.

That's a good point. It keeps folks from tossing their 7 Combat dupes into the auction. I forgot that only big, unusual items really get the nod.

Well your Vectrex set-up is definitely good to go. I have yet to attend a show where there weren't a dozen people looking for a Vectrex. Hopefully there will be a few on the floor for sale but if not, good for your auction!

You have to have your crap approved? Geez, last year you guys sold a boxed SMS battle outrun in the auction, sure it's an import, but it sure ain't rare or sought after.

Last year you didn't have to have your crap approved.
This year you do have to get your crap approved.
It's simple really. I call it "progress".
Any questions?

I'll respond as Sniderman did with Tempest: I gotta SEE the goods first. But I'd say from here you've got a bidder :D

It might be a bit late, but perhaps we can have a pre-auction registration where people can bring their items in for approval, and a list can be generated for people to look at before the auction.

Yes, I do have some questions.
What do those of us to do who don't have "Airworld" prototypes or the disembodied brain of Ken Uston alive in a jar have to do to get in the auction?
And what about those poor kids who wanna auction off their semi-rares, huh? What will you say when they walk away crying?
Sorry if I'm being melodramatic, just seems a bit "elitist" to me.

Well, I'd rather see some interesting items go up than see mega man 6 go up again. I doubt the approval process is going to deny people just because their item is common or cheap, as long as there's room for the interesting and unusual items as well. It's just as important for the CGE auction to be a place for people to see rare items as it is for collectors to get their hands on rare items.

Excellent.

It's not all about super-rare stuff, it's MORE to do with super-desireable stuff. For example, Tim's Vectrex. A complete boxed Master System with a few complete games would be great too.
And what about those poor kids who wanna auction off their semi-rares, huh? What will you say when they walk away crying?
All I can say is that given the choice, the rares will go on the block before the semi-rares do. If you've come to CGE to sell your semi-rares (which seems odd to me, but I'll play along), the auction isn't the place for it. Better to sell at the pre-auction CGE Swap Meet. There are plenty of vendors/exhibitors who would probably be interested in buying as well.
But to be honest, if I see someone crying they'll get a kick in the pants. There's no CRYING in classic gaming! There's no CRYING at CGE!
Sorry if I'm being melodramatic, just seems a bit "elitist" to me.
Doesn't seem melodramatic at all. Hope I helped answer your questions.
One of the things we learned from the first auction at World of Atari is that people don't want common junk in the auction.
The WOA auction was such a disaster that we didn't even consider doing an auction again until CGE 2001. When we decided to try another auction, we set up some rules internally that we wouldn't waste people's time with common items like 2600 systems, groups of common carts, etc.
As Joe stated, we are looking for items that will get bids and that people are looking for. The item(s) don't necessarily have to be rare. That stated, CGE reserves the right to refuse an item that we don't think people will be interested in.
Of course in the past we have relaxed these standards as we probably will this year, but we also have to balance the fact that there is limited time available for this and we have to provide items that will keep the attendees coming back for more.
Hope you understand.

Exellent point, I was just afraid you'd tightened restrictions to the point that only "Holy grails" would be accepted. Glad to see i was wrong.

Eh, how about a R.O.B. with a complete Gyromite setup? I have three loose R.O.B.s, and 2 complete Gyromite setups. Don't *really* need 'em, and I'm already bringing 2 R.O.B.s to CGE.
A nice auction, but I don't think it'll make the cut. Two things: Would anyone want to add in a complete Stackup setup to go with this, and I'll split the profit 33:67. And two, would this make the cut?

another question. Can we provide short (20-50 word) descriptions to be read along with or provide information about the auction items?
Sniderman
07-22-2003, 04:31 PM
I'm not an organizer, but I've sat in on a few of these and participated in 'em myself. You are encouraged to provide a brief description as to the nature of the item or anything unusual that may not be visable. A few words is great for the auctioneers (OK, it's just John, Sean, and Joe) so they call inform the folks who may be sitting in the back what's so cool about it. And, inevitably, bidders will charge the podium for a quick look (ahem-Ian-ahem) before the bidding begins.
But, you don't have much time before registration, so you gotta be quick and to-the-point on your registration card.

If you hand this to us with the item itself (or when the item goes on the block), we'd surely use it. We've gotten some oddball stuff in the past and we don't know everything. Well, Sean does but he doesn't like to share. :-D

Anybody want to make a few bucks and go as my bidder. You'll need to have a cell phone and be fairly trustworthy. I can't make it this year but if I can have in on that auction I will.

Jr. Pac Man 5200 proto?
Track and Field 5200 proto?
I should check the website for the show, but what are the terms? Can I set a reserve?

Both of those would certainly qualify, and yes you can set a reserve price.

A Vectrex.
A brand new Vectrex game for the personalized for the show auction.
A pocket full of cash to buy some stuff that might be good to have!
A video camera (enough tape and an extra battery this year!)

Those first two are no-brainers, great auction items. What is an import Metal Slug 2 cart commanding nowadays? I haven't seen one in awhile.
Remember, it's not all about super-rare stuff. Unusual things and things that are very much "in demand" like Vectrex systems, imports, etc are great to have on the block for those who don't have a ton of cash to part with!

OK, sounds fine to me. :)
I'll leave Metal Slug 2 at home, unless someone speaks up.

Since I'm getting one of Chad's new Cuttle Cart II's (beta testing it actually), I thought about putting up my old Cuttle Cart for auction. I'm sure someone will want it since it works great and doesn't need a 7800 (not to mention it's about $100 less). Would anyone be interested?

Interested, yes.
Whether or not I'll have the kind of dosh needed to jump into the auction action, that's another thing entirely. O_O But I will be keeping my eyes and ears open.

I have no idea what it might go for. I can't even remember what I paid for it originally (I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $100).
