View Full Version : Dump the Nyko Frontman Guitar? What's it's value?

I'm trying to get rid of this I don't need and I came across a PS3 Frontman Guitar I had ordered on Amazon once. I could never use it since by that time, Sony had released a firmware that prevented unauthorized use of USB accessories, making the guitar completely worthless. Yes, there are "run around" to make it worth, but it's not worth my time...I want to plug it in and be done with it, not fiddle with the thing to make it work.

Is it worth keeping or to just dump it? It's actually complete in box and almost brand new because of lack of use. Selling it online doesn't seem feasible, since shipping will be a bitch (high cost). I could sell locally, but I don't think anyone would be interested in picking up a guitar that will not work on their systems (because of the firmware updates).

Any ideas? Burn it? Sell it? Use it as a sledgehammer?

I'd sit on it. Right now, guitar games are in the toilet and you'll be less likely to find a buyer. In the future, it may be desired specifically because it's useless (an oddity) but who knows... it may not go anywhere and just take up space.

Will it work on a PC? Since it's USB and stuff.

Depending on how long ago that was, I think you can actually return it to Amazon since it doesn't work anymore. I know some people received refunds for their PS3's after the Linux firmware update so I'm assuming you could do the same if you're interested in getting your cash back. I'm sure you could also take it to a non-profit thrift store and get a tax credit.

If not, I'd probably sit on it like others suggested. Hell, if your PS3 ever breaks, use the guitar to finish it off.

May as well try a PC. Worst that'll happen if that doesn't work is lack of drivers.

Oh, I forgot about this topic!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've decided to keep the guitar, just stashed "in a corner". It might become something odd, like Portnoyd stated.

I didn't try connecting it to the PC since I have the Guitar Hero II controller that works perfectly (the Xbox 360 version).

It just boggles my mind that, to this date, Nyko has yet to find a solution to the problem. I thought perhaps a firmware upgrade would have fixed the issue (firmware on the receiver at the very least). But not even that...

You'd think they care, but they probably don't.
