View Full Version : Jaguar Owners: Looking for Your Opinion

I recently picked up a Jaguar and an ICD Catbox. I'm relatively new to the world of Jaguar collecting, but this forum post at AtariAge brought up some interesting questions:

http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/28357-icd-catbox-question/

Basically, I'm unsure if I made the correct purchase. Should I have gone with the Scatalogic Scatbox over the ICD Catbox? I definitely prefer the look of the Catbox, but I was wondering if any owners here have an opinion.

Side Note: The posts on AtariAge got into a really heated debate, which is why I posed the question here instead of there.

Thanks!

I'm not going to get into the politics of Atari Age. I am sure that the Catbox works well as it is. Being a Jaguar fan, I love the sucker. You can also always ask over at Jaguar Sector II. The site is dedicated to the Atari Jaguar itself.

I don't have a Jaguar, but just reading that thread linked in the OP, it seems the guy most vocally arguing for the Scatbox is involved in the making of them, so he's gonna be pretty biased.

Just looking at the various photos posted in that thread, I'd go with a Catbox. That "cords coming out the top" thing the Scatbox has going on is just weird.

I couldn't help but laugh when you suggested him a site to visit due to the politics at AtariAge. If he thought the Jaguar forum at AtariAge was bad, just wait until he visits JSII.

That's how I felt about it too. I took a look at the Scatbox and didn't particularly like it, but he was fighting very strongly for it.

Thanks for the link to Jaguar Sector II. As I get more into collecting Jag stuff, I'm sure I'll check it out a lot.

The heck is a Catbox?

Please tell me its not a litter pan that doubles over as a gaming console.

There is a reason why the Jaguar CD looked like a toilet.

It's a doodad that attaches to the back of the Jag and offers an assortment of AV options and such, similar to something like a TurboBooster but with networking options.

Honestly, I'd be as happy with the Catbox as the Scatbox, issues of rarity and price aside. That thread on AtariAge is fairly absurd, what with its hypothetical discussions of hardware durability and aesthetics - neither the Catbox nor Scatbox are beautifully designed.

I have a Catbox, and I'm mostly content with it. The only problem I've ever noticed is that it doesn't really mount to the system very securely (ie, if you pick up the system, the Catbox will generally just fall off the back), but it's never come apart while playing or anything, so whatever.

I don't like how the cables mount on the Scatbox. Seems silly to have them mount at 90-degree angles.
