In some ways, yes it is. :) Here is a good ongoing discussion about it and a recent post I made regarding some differences between the version. I haven't played the Saturn version but already hear it is the best version. Also I am doing a playthrough video series of the Jag version on YouTube.

I know nothing about which is better, etc.. so I too am curious to hear which is preferred and why.

No love for the DOS version? :P
Edit: Weird. The DOS version has a much smaller playfield.

I think they both look good but have to admit there is something about the Jag version, its hard to explain but its as though the Jaguar graphics have more depth.

Never got a chance to play through the PS1 version, but I was always much preferred the game on the Jag over the Saturn version. Not sure what it was, it just seemed 'more correct'. Loved the hell out of that game back then.

The Jaguar version should have the same colour depth as the PSX version, I would think. While development of the Jag version started before it, I can't see why the art would have needed to be altered for the PSX, or any, port. Those comparison screenshots look identical to me as far as depth of shading, the only difference I can spot being the colour balance which is probably more to do with the display the shots were captured from than anything.
To play favourites, the redbook audio soundtrack of PSX Rayman has the Jaguar version beat, in my opinion.

The Jag one is the only way to go...I have it and remember getting it back in the day and was like wow...and showed it off to friends so they could see what the Jag could do in the right hands

I personally loved Rayman on the Atari Jaguar, I felt that it really showed off some beautiful graphics and I liked how the game handled on the bulky Jaguar controller versus the smaller controller of the PS1. I originally played the game first on the PS1 in late 1995 right around the time it came out and I fell in love with it, I rented it a couple of times but never purchased it until I received a Jaguar for Christmas of 1996 (per my request) and got Rayman along with it. I finally was able to dive into the game and ended up playing it through 4 or 5 times, I've recently revisted the game about a year ago and played through it once again. There was just something about this title on the Jaguar that made me enjoy it a tad bit more than I did when I played it on the PS1, but either which was it was (and still is) and fun and enjoyable game worth playing.

Jaguar version is awesome. I like the Playstation and Saturn versions, but the Jaguar version is just a more loved experience for me at least. As for the color depth, the Jaguar version is much better colorwise. It really is a nice version of the game. Again, not saying the Saturn and Playstation versions are not, but something about the Jaguar version is just awesome!

The last time I tried to play the PC version, long ago, this game struck me as hard. Like, worse than Donkey Kong Country. (The PC version also had this nasty bug where everything would suddenly speed up inexplicably every now and then.)
Am I the only one who feels that way?

Rayman is extremely hard. Most people surely have never beaten it.
