Ok...this may be a tough one. This game was in an Aladdin's Castle arcade inside Regency Mall in Racine, WI around 1984 ish. I was only 4 or 5 at the time so my memories are spotty at best. Infact I remeber very little about the actual game play but I do remeber watching the game screen alot in it's idle state and I seem to remember it being very cartoon-like (almost like Dragon's Layer level animation). It was a woman's voice describing bad things happening to friends of hers and the most destinct image was a mans face melting rather graphically. It was a very disturbing image which is why I was intimidated to actually play the game. This may just be ramblings of a mad man, but I swear it has haunted me for nearly 30 years and I am ready to face this game if it exists, please help.

Well there are a ton of laserdisc arcade games. I can remember Space Ace off the top of my head, and I think there was another fantasy-themed one that wasn't part of the Dragon's Lair series.

There used to be a whole page dedicated to them. Anyone know where it is?

Is this (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/games/) it- it being the page dedicated to Laser Disc Video Games, not the actual game?

Good luck finding the game, Kosstheboss. Strange how something so fleeting can impact our psyche for so long, eh? Perhaps if you track down the game, play it, and beat it, you'll exorcise the memory.

Bega's Battle. The face-melting stuck with me for years.

If you want to re-live the fun of that game in your own living room it is fully playable (face melting and all) via the DAPHNE emulator!

OMG!!! You guys are my @#%!ing heros!! I can not tell you how long I have had that image stuck in my head and being so young I could never be sure if it was an actual game or just a bleed over of some other media I had seen. I can't wait to get my hands on this and take it down. Seriously...thank you.

So what was the deal with the face-melting, anyway? Was it explained during the game at all?

Not sure myself. I never could get past the 1st level on that game and I love me some laser disc gaming.

Holy crap at that face melting. Good thing it flew under the soccer mom radar.

Ok, a quick Wikipedia check says that footage from the game was taken from the movie Harmagedon.

Whoever can find that film and let me know WTF is going on will win a puppy.

It was the 80s.

Soccer Moms didn't exist in the caricatured form we've come to know them as now, and where they did, they certainly weren't accompanying their kids to the local arcade to monitor what games they were playing.

In fact, if your local arcade had a Bega's Battle you probably had to ride your own BMX there, across some railroad tracks, a vacant lot and through a shady section of town.

Just add school bullies and you've got a scene from any given '80s teen action movie.

Or a friendly stranded alien that buddies up with the main character kid.

Haha, that is literally how I used to go to my local arcade. Except for the BMX part, I was stuck with a girl's bike that only went five speeds instead of ten.

This arcade was about 45 minutes from where I lived but it was the closest mall so I would get to go maybe every month or two, and on my birthday I could choose between having a party with gifts or to have 20-30 dollars to spend at the arcade. I chose the arcade every time. Seeing the footage of this game really transported me back there. And, now that I think about it this was my first exposure to japanese style animation which probably began my thirst for anime as well. What a catharsis this has been.

Before I attempt this, I think it is fair to ask just how fluffy of a puppy are we talkin' here?

All the Laser Disc Arcade Games of my childhood (Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and their sequels) were at Showbiz Pizza, where soccer mom prototypes roamed about in a collective stupor induced by all the flashing lights, beeping games, and screaming kids. Bega's Battle would have flown under the radar no problem.

Well, I might be too late to win a prize, but here's what I know:

** Spoilers - don't read on if you're stoked about seeing the movie Harmageddon **

The dude with the melting face used to be human but was taken over by a demon. The melting is essentially revealing the demon that inhabits his body. Bega (or Vega, depending on subtitles) has been fighting evil since waayyy back . He joins up with a number of humans from various countries. Each person has a different talent (ESP, teleportation, etc...). The movie is pretty bizarre. It's worth seeing if you're a fan of Rin Taro or Otomo. Both worked on it, and it was apparently the film that led to the 'new style' of Anime and movies like Akira.

Is it a great film? IMHO no. Is it a cool-looking landmark 80s film? Yep! It's part of a long-running graphic novel series (which I haven't read. It would be nice to though, since it would answer some questions and supply more back-story).
