It's about damn time! The Simpsons is a game that has so needed to be released for a VERY long time.

Hm, so will this game be 1200 or 800? I remember when 400 was the norm...

Good news
This game has many fans, so I'm happy to see it finally coming home. Sadly, I have absolutely zero interest in it since I can't stand the license, but I'll enjoy seeing impressions at how well it translates to home consoles just the same. And hopefully it will be a success and encourage Konami and others to take a swing at some other games that are fondly remembered but had previously been considered unsuitable for rerelease.

"A port of classic side-scrolling beat-em-up The Simpsons Arcade Game appears to be in the works at Backbone Entertainment.
Australia's ratings board popped up with a listing for the beloved title yesterday that showed Backbone as its developer and Konami as its publisher. Konami was responsible for the game's original release in 1991 so it's no surprise to see it back for this project, which would presumably be coming to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as a downloadable title. An iOS version was released in 2009 that looked rather nice but wasn't nearly as much fun as the original.
Backbone has developed a long list of PSN and XBLA games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. It's responsible for a very long list of ports including side-scrolling beat-em-ups like X-Men and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
These ratings board listings are a reliable way of finding out about game announcements ahead of time. Konami isn't willing to confirm the news just yet, but it's more than likely a matter of time."

It's the one Simpsons game I actually like, I'm glad it's getting a new release though I don't have a current system to play it on.

Don't hope for this because look at all the classic console games that are psn and mini exclusive.

so have it, but playing it on the big screen is different, and playing with 4 players is just crazy.

While I usually don't buy any of these games until they are put on sale, The Simpsons Arcade may be the exception. Hopefully this will be released soon.

I'd probably be more excited about it had I not been playing it on MAME since 2000.

True, but I can play it on my big screen and with hq graphic filters turned on...and with 4 players. It is cool that it's finally happening (I had wanted this game for years before I did emulation), but I think it's too late for my jaded ass to be excited.

Very excited that this is coming to XBLA and PSN. Now if only D&D: Tower of Doom would see the light of day.

Excluding about the first 18 months or so of this HD generation (The first 18 months for the 360 and the first 6 months or so on the market for the PS3), I'd say 90% or more of the classic games that have been ported to one platform since then has also been released on the other. You'd be hard pressed to find any classic games on Xbox Live Arcade or classic games on the PSN alternative of XBLA that are exclusives since 2006.
Can hardly fault Microsoft about any PSP Minis. They're PSP software that just happens to be able to be played via a PSP emulator on the PS3. And we're not talking about things like Game Room for the 360 or Sony's rerelease program for PSOne, NeoGeo, and TG16 games. We're talking specifically about Xbox Live Arcade and Sony's equivalent.

I don't think I've ever played this game back in the day. Then again, I haven't been a Simpsons fan in forever. I'll still check out the demo though.

Not really that much of a Simpsons fan, but I've always loved this game. Definitely a day one purchase. Hopefully they don't change it too much.
