Hey! Has anyone here ever played Stretch Panic for the PS2 from Treasure? Just looking for a few opinions before I pick one up (online reviews vary quite a bit and seem bland). Thanks!!! :monkey:

SP is Treasure's worst game -- bizarre-yet-boring segments of grabbing and twirling enormous breasts spliced together with very short boss battles. Someone on GameFAQs, the short bus of the Web, claims SP was a tech demo fleshed out into a game, which makes a lot of sense. (I considerably overrated SP in a long-ago review, as I am easily swayed by large boobies.)

Here in the UK it is called Freak Out. I actually like it quite a lot - once you get over the initial complete bizarreness of it!! The trouble is, I guess, that it only has one original concept in it. The rest is standard Treasure fare ... small "in-between" levels where you power up before fighting an enormous slew of insane bosses. As with most Treasure games, it is largely a boss fight game. Where it differs is that the "in-between" bits are sooo much fun!! I said that it only has one original idea - but then that is one more than most games these days. And it is a great one! It is so much fun going round tweaking all the girls to build up your points! And bouncing yourself around the level by carefully catapulting yourself off various bits of scenery.

Now I know that it is not going to be everyone's cup of tea - but I had great fun with it. It does take a llittle while to get used the concept of controlling your character and her scarf at the same time ... but once you do, it comes really naturally. It's one of the few games that actually uses all the joypad, but doesn't make you feel like you are trying to fly a spaceship designed for a creature with more limbs than you!

One other criticism is that it looks to be quite a short game. I don't have a memory card, so I haven't actually finished it. But my flatmate and I started playing it one Saturday afternoon, maybe about 3ish. Broke off to go to the cinema and watch a film, came back, and by midnight we were over half way through. Unless it gets seriously more difficult very soon after that, it's gonna be a one weekend game - two at the max.

On the whole, I think I would have been disappointed at new full price, but in the UK you can get this game for about $8 used. And for that, it is an absolute must.

It sucks, pure and simple. The bosses are kinda cool, but fighting the same silicon filled women over and over is tedious and dull. Could have been great, turned out lousy.

I wouldn't say that it sucks, it's just sub-standard. There's some enjoyment to be had.

Considering that you can find the game for less than $10, the pure bizarreness of it warrants a purchase.

Treasure occasionally oversteps the boundary of bizzarre edginess into the territory of mindless nonsense. This game is their worst offender. Terrible game.

Yeah, I'd agree with everyone else. Not a good game. Period.

Good game? Well...

But it deserves a spot in the collection just for the plain weirdness, sez I. Arrrr!

Hate it, but picked it up cheap for the ole Treasure collection.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I really appreciate it! I might still pick up the game (only around $7) and give it a try. If anything, I'll trade it back towards the new Mario Golf. Thanks again!!!

Heh,
I kind of like it, as a bizarre and interesting mess! So if you can get it for cheap and like bizarre games (vs yet another racing, vs. fighting, or extreme sports game) you may enough it for a bit... But get ICO for cheap first if they have it!

Cheers,
Ben

Already got ICO. I really, really FREAKIN' LOVE that game! Even though it has the single most annoying and useless "sidekick" in any game, ever.

If you find Princess Yorda "annoying and useless," you're totally missing the point of Ico.

No, I got the point just fine. I just think that she's a silly, silly little elf girl (and without her, unfourtunately, our little horned boy has no hope of escaping).
