it looks like the powers that be are intent on remaking lttp for the 3ds:

"Following the brilliant 3DS remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo recently announced that the company's next Zelda-related project for the handheld would be an original one, so as to avoid back-to-back remakes. Following this new entry, the natural choice for the next 3DS remake would seem to be Majora's Mask.

But Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto has other ideas. Earlier this year Miyamoto confirmed that A Link to the Past is the Zelda title he's most interested in revisiting.

"I think A Link To The Past," he responded when asked what game he'd like to see remade for the 3DS. "Do you remember Xevious? It's two-layered and I really wanted to create that at the time. So to see Link to the Past in two layers would be quite attractive for me."

As reported by our friends over at 1Up, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma recently stated that Miyamoto's intentions still haven't altered. "Well actually, even Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games," he said. "In particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds."

Aonuma went on to say, "That's something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future." All focus will undoubtedly be on the original 3DS Zelda title for quite some time, but this proves the chances of us seeing an updated version of one of the greatest Zelda games of all time are very good indeed."

if this is true it would be so awesome!, imagine a zelda with souped up gamecube four swords graphics!

Or 3D like the current Zeldas and the new Super Mario 3D Land, only overhead perspective. 3D graphics work better with 3D characters. Either way, I see it being a real success if they return to that formula. It's what we all really want, isn't?

I know I would like to see a more action-focused approach again. We already have a load of the 3D puzzle Zeldas. Give us an overhead perspective adventure game like the original and LTTP and you've really got something.

It sure doesn't sound like they're intent on souping up the graphics with special effects and such, just 3Dizing the current game as part of their 3D Classics line just like they did with Xevious and a few others.

What I'm about to suggest has just about a zero chance of ever happening, but if it's a real remake and actually saw a retail release (I'd bet on what I just said about what form it will take), I hope they look to BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban for the Satellaview for some bonus content.

I also hope they don't neglect the small quest and the special dungeon that they added to the GBA port.

Wasn't Miyamoto previously against remaking Zelda games or am I getting this confused with something else? I can't find anything confirming that on google as every link I can find is current about this latest news.

If he felt that way, it was quite sometime ago. He's been all for it during the early life of the 3DS. He's been mentioning wanting to remake Link to the Past for about the past year now.

Link to the Past is boring. I'd rather have a Link's Awakening remake.

I would rather have both. :P

Links Awkening was the first Zelda game I beat so I'll always have fond memories of it over Link to the Past both are amazing games though. The ideal package would contain a 3D-ifyed A Link to the Past and a graphically updated 3d-ified Links Awakening, that I would buy in a heartbeat.

Link To The Past is probably my favorite Zelda game, I'm interested to see how this pans out.

That'd be nice.. but I'd still like a proper sequel to LTTP/LA if anything as they never got one. And by that I mean overhead graphics, an explorable overworld with Zelda overworld theme and plenty of secrets, and a good amount of dungeons (some hidden) etc. Yes sort of like how 4-Swords looked on the Gamecube without being such a big tease. LOL

And no, the Capcom Zeldas nor the "touchscreen" Zelda's do not count. :p

Remakes are a great way to breath new life in a good but dead title, but this title is far from dead. I hope this isn't going to be a lucas style hack and slash fest.

Link's Awakening: This also is currently available in the DX version for the 3DS.

It does sound more like he's just talking about keeping it 2d but having different graphics layers in different 3D positions. I'm not sure how well that would work in this game though since the main ground layer has so many different height levels. Moving "up and down" wouldn't look right and would probably ruin the 3D effect.

Well that's something that would be fine with me, as i could turn it off. Well i'm mostly pessimistic about... well, everything. But i hope for the best as a link to the past and links awakening are my two favorite zelda titles. I would hate seeing them ruined.
