We are having a little tournament series. It is called "THIS GAME Needs to be Remade for Modern Consoles" or TGNRMC for short.

How the tourney period works: Two games will go mano-a-mano per thread with people voting for their favorite. The winners of each bracket will face off against the other winners in the following brackets until only the winning "champion game" remains.

The rules: There will be one tourney match per day until a final winner is decided. All "champion games" are ineligible for future "THIS GAME Needs to be Remade" tournaments.

This thread is for voting between Robowarrior / Bomber King and River City Ransom.

Robowarrior / Bomber King desperately needs a modern remake. It could even just be remade with the same old school play style, making it a good candidate for a downloadable re-imagining. The single player mode in Bomberman games sucks, Robowarrior was the spin off that aimed to change that. I've always thought the game would have done far better as an arcade title than on the NES and a modern remake would open the floodgates for online achievements, levels with multiple exits, maybe even a level editor. Although it did have a GB sequel, Bomber King: Scenario 2 (released in the US as Blaster Master Boy), either a remake or third game is something we need.

For the box art, something along the lines of the Famicom box art would even be fine...

Definitely River City Ransom.

Scott Pilgrim was basically a neo-RCR in a lot of ways. And it was damn good.

An overhauled Robowarrior would work beautifully as a Rebirth-style downloadable, I'd love to see something like that. River City Ransom would be cool, but like a remade Double Dragon, that game's already enjoyed an update and exists in a genre that's been pretty well explored.

River City Ransom

It truly and completely elevated the beat-em-up genre in ways that nothing else before it ever did and was a 2-player-simultaneous technical masterpiece on the Famicom/NES.

The GBA game was brilliantly executed except for the fact that it was NOT a 2-player game, essentially breaking the key core experience of the original.

While I appreciate everything that the Scott Pilgrim game is/was, it is not a "sequel" proper to RCR, and with the quantifiable popularity of games in the same genre on modern consoles I see no reason why River City Ransom can't be re-booted/updated to massive success.

Robowarrior, but they should base it on the GB sequel (Blaster Master Boy).

RCR is actually getting a sequel but it was due last summer so maybe not:

Awww, that's what my pick got put up against? LOL

Between these two I'd still say Robowarrior / Bomber King. The thought of fresh remixes of the music alone would be enough for me.

Almost everyone that plays games in the beat 'em up genre knows River City Ransom - it has been parodied, remade, and reworked (although I do agree the lack of two player option and nearly broken save system in EX sucked ass).

However Robowarrior / Bomber King was never even really given a chance. It's a beautiful NES game, great design, awesome music, and features some awesome boss fights but the perceived starting difficulty scares people away. A fresh re-imagining of the title could be a way to re-introduce a nearly forgotten franchise to new players while at the same time continuing a series that shouldn't have died on the Game Boy.

River City Ransom FTW!

Now, if you want to compare Robowarrior with the original Bomberman, I'll give the win to Robowarrior.
