Hey all,
I've got four different Xbox controllers that I use with my console/PC. All of them are first-party, but all of them are also second-hand. One of the controllers won't hold a charge and won't work unless plugged into the console via Charge Pack/USB cord. Another one won't hold a charge for very long, etc. What I'd like to do is just swap out all four controllers' batteries with fresh ones. Is there a place where I could buy four new batteries all at the same time? Would eBay be the way to go, or could I order them direct from Microsoft, or some other retailer? I just need the batteries. Thanks to anybody who can help!

I think ebay would be your best bet. I see brand new batteries going for $2.28 shipped.

I bought some cheapo ones at Meijer and they we're never more than two bars of power, but they lasted a week or so through heavy playing. Go figure.

What's wrong with Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rechargeable-Controller-Battery-Black/dp/B000OYIVGM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321109611&sr=8-1)?

I have some cheapo 3rd party batteries and charger for my 360 controllers, oddly enough they have lasted longer than than the OEM ones. The only strange thing I have encountered is the fit of the battery pack--they fit fine in all of my controllers, except for the newer silver controller with the redesigned d-pad. For some reason the cheapo battery packs don't seat properly to make contact, and get stuck in the controller.

I use rechargable batteries with the battery holder that came with the controllers. When the batteries wear out, I just get another set for $8-$10.

This. If you break open a battery pack, it's just rechargeable AA's in there anyway, so cut out the middle man and get some Energizer rechargeables or something.
Mine last about a month between charges, but obviously that's going to change depending on if you play more or less. I got a big pack of them at Sam's Club for 20 something dollars, so I always have some charged and ready to go if they should start to die mid game.
As an additional bonus, I can also use them in other devices, like my Wii remote.

What's weird about that black pack on Amazon is that it costs so much. $19.99 just for the pack while you can still buy a first party play and charge kit for $16.99. More product for less money. It's also interesting that the pink pack is only 5 bucks. Guess that Microsoft pink controller must have been a big flop...
